SOLO TRAVELS 2019

  • Late night dinner at Boat Quay

    19. november 2019, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Went for a late night dinner at 11pm the waiter agreed to serve us but informed us he would need us to pay when we ordered as they were closing soon little did we know they really meant closing. He didn't even take his tip so missed out on $4

Historia and I sat in the restaurant with one other couple in the dark on the quay eating pizza and chatting for hours.

When we got back to the hostel I realised my e-ticket needed to be printed to be valid but with out hostel reception closed till 8am and my ferry to bintan at 7.30 panic set up. There was a huge hotels cross the river from us so at 12pm we set out to beg them to print my ticket for the ferry in the morning. Thankfully an angel Gabriel (receptionist real name) printed the tickets for us.

  • Lost in Bintan

    20. november 2019, Indonesia ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

Note to self: Check map before booking ferry!

Today I ended up on the wrong side of the island of Bintan (1 hr and 40 minutes away from where I should be!) When i got off the ferry I was the only white person in sight, something that wasnt missed by all the locals! The ferry terminal had no wifi so I had to walk into the village to look for wifi and my presence didnt go unnoticed, I was followed up the street by 15/20 men hassling me to get into their "taxis". I found a cafe (if you can even call it that), with 4 women inside. I went in and asked.for a coffee and a wifi code but the women had no English so called a man from across the street to speak to me. He informed me I had got the wrong ferry and the only way to the resort was via land.

to where I managed to connect to the wifi.
I managed to get in contact with Lorna and Paul in Singapore who GRAB taxi driver Doni saved me from

  • E-tickets arent always e-tickets

    20. november 2019, Singapore ⋅ 🌧 30 °C

After a lovely evening visiting the Marina Bay Sands Hotel with German girls and a late dinner on boat quay with Historei, I decided was about time to read my ferry ticket info to Bintan, an island off Singapore, which isnt actually apart of Singapore, but Indonesia ... therefore the ferry has some very strict policies!

To my surprise my e-ticket isnt in fact an e-ticket but must be printed, which is a fact that sent me into a bit of a tissy as it is now 12.30 the night before an 8am ferry to Bintan and our top class hostel has no staff after 10pm to print my tickets. After some failed internet searches for 24hrs printers in the area and an attempt to find a way to hack the hostel printer Historei and I decided to set out to find a pub or hotel to print my tickets.

We had a hotel across the Bay in mind but tried a few pubs beforehand only to receive bewildered looks at why two girls are out begging for a printer at 1am. We marched up through the Fullerton Hotel doors trying to look as if we belonged in Elephant backpacker pants and found our Angel Gabriel (no really that was the receptionist name) behind the reception desk who graciously printed the tickets.

Pictured below the pure look of joy that we managed to compete our task! Now to ensure I wake to my 6am alarm 🙈

  • Snorkelling at Bali National Park

    5. desember 2019, Indonesia ⋅ 🌧 31 °C

I've always wanted to try snorkelling but I really thought my fear of deep water would stop me. I was quite worried even jumping off the side of the boat into the water but said I have to do something that scares me. Once I was in the water and shown how to breath I loved it. The colours were so vibrant and we saw so many fish from clown fish, blue star fish, snapper fish, lobster, turquoise fish with flecks of silver and pink and the striped blue and white fish like Dory in finding Nemo. But hands down my favourite part of it was seeing the school of little sardines and swimming through them watching them dart in all the different directions.
This is a memory I will never forgot

  • Melbourne Smoke

    14. januar 2020, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

January 14th 2020 was the day that Melbourne was officially ranked as having the worst air quality in the world. The smoke from the forest fires surrounding Melbourne and Sydney was so bad that it gave a record reading in Melbourne of 407 meaning the air quality was toxic.

Outside Melbourne the small town of Wangaratta, Victoria recorded some of the worst pollution in the developed world, rating 568 on the world air pollution index, almost double the hazardous rating of 300.

I guess I came to Australia for new experiences...
