    We finally got to camp on the beach at Cape Keraudren and do a spot of fishing. We found a fish-packed reef and caught ourselves a nice feed of mullet, parrot, trevalli and brim. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon...Les mer

    I have always wanted to go to Broome and 'it' did not disappoint. Dazzled by pearls, burnt red rocks, streaky blue skies, snow-white sands and more wine-happy sunsets we fitted in as much as we could...from pearl farms to coastal, wind-in-my-hair drives, live music, sweat-inspiring parkrun, saucy seafood, and white-pearl gin, AND relished every moment of it!!!!
    The pearl shells born of the Indian Ocean floor also birthed the town of Broome in the 1800's. The pearls themselves came later. Since then, it has flourished into the vibrant, creative, multi-cultural tourist town it is today. We left today with 'our cups overflowing'.    Les mer

    "Purnululu N/P was inscribed upon the World Heritage List of the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 2003. Inscription on this List confirms the Outstanding Universal Value of a cultural or natural property which deserves protection for the benefit of all humanity.
    This area was inscribed for it's exceptional natural beauty, particularly the extraordinary array of banded, bee-hive shaped cone towers comprising the Bungle Bungle Range. These formations are among the most outstanding in the world and are of great scientific importance."
    We chose to self-drive the 50kms into the Park, leaving at 6am from our freecamp and getting back at 7.30pm minus the top of the aerial on the Jimny! It was a big day, but a good one!! So glad we did it!!    Les mer

    Our campsite by evening...Lake Argyle, larger than Sydney Harbour and man-made, sooooo blue...Ord River Hydro- electric station at Lake Argyle...Mark looking for Boab seeds next to dam wall...Fabulous Infinity pool at Lake Argyle Caravan Park..Stopped at 1884 Argyle homestead, rebuilt in 1969 as the dam flooded...Home of the Durack family who started large cattle property here...Home to the Durack family, well known in these parts, originally from QLD, now a museumPatsy's nest, his nest build specially to attract a mate, the bowerbird likes white and grey...On way back to Kununurra...very dry here at present...Twin boabs...

    Same age as Mark!!!! Great little town. We loved it!! We camped at Hidden Valley, at the base of The Little Bungles- great park!
    We visited Lake Argyle Dam, the Argyle Homestead and The Zebra Rock Showroom. Zebra Rock is particular to this region and very beautiful. We bought a few mementoes of area and gifts for those back home. We also were given some Boab seeds and a plant by the owner. Boab trees are like weeds up here. They are everywhere and they come in soooooo many shapes and sizes and groupings...we love them !❤🌳
    We will cross the border today into NT...farewell WA. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time within your borders and can't wait to come back to see all the parts we missed this visit... and some more!!!! Cheers 🥂    Les mer

    Coffee/ lunch stop at Timber Creek Roadhouse. Further down the road there is a tribute to the Durack family( see last post- Argyle Homestead). A pioneering family originally from Ireland, who owned lots of land around Oz...they were known for working with, the Aboriginals!!!!
    Today is our longest driving day to date, left at 8am and will get into Manbulloo Station at 4.50pm, 520kms and nearly 7 hours driving, including time difference of 1.5 hrs between WA and NT. Thankyou Driver Mark.( I read to him to keep him going)🙂.    Les mer

    Parkrun PB in Katherine

    26.48mins!! WOOHOO!!!! My goal was to do a P/R PB here and I achieved my goal!! Very happy but feeling tired now (Dad would be proud)!!!!
    It was great to visit Katherine again. We spent most of our time at the Hot Springs. Perfect temperature, not too hot and not too cold. We spent 4 hours in the water all up!! Totally divine!!
    Stayed at Manbulloo Homestead, which was very peaceful, plenty of room and included a live cattle/bull experience. Totally recommend it!
    Ended our time in Katherine, with P/R and brekkie afterwards at the Pop-Up Cafe- beaut spot! Nev and Tracey joined us, and it was sad to farewell them as now we are off to Mt. ISA to see our niece Ella, and then Forrest Beach. Tracey and Nev are of to Darwin, Kakadu and Litchfield.
    The whole group has split now, and we are now on our own...    Les mer

    After our mammoth 2 days of driving, we decided to camp 'beside a billabong, under the shade of a coolibah tree', for 2 nights. We rested, we walked, we talked to the birds, we watched movies, and we sang ' Waltzing Matilda'...
    Mark even met a couple of army ex-apprentices to 'chew the fat' with.... topic of conversation: trucks!!!!

    We've cleared a campsite, we've discovered a path to the beach- it just needs some fine-tuning with a machetti and chainsaw, and have plenty of free firewood for a fire whenever we want it!! 🔥
    The only sound is the sound of silence and birds 🐦
    Enjoying life at the moment! And getting to know Forrest beach and surrounds...
    3 minute walk to beach via our man-made path...
    3 minute drive to main beach...for walk or brekkie or shop
    8 minute run to main beach and Tavern and shops...
    Trip to Townsville and Ingham today... checked out the shopping on offer!    Les mer
