• One Last Walk Through Mayfair

    July 20 in England ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

With my suitcase packed and safely stored at the hotel, I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to London just yet.

There were still a few hours left. Just enough time for one final adventure.

I decided to head to Mayfair, one of London's most elegant neighbourhoods. It was only a short subway ride from the hotel, and there was one particular building I wanted to see.

For months, I had admired photos of its spectacular seasonal façades online. Every few months, the entire exterior is transformed into an elaborate floral installation, and the current summer display looked absolutely stunning.

    I arrived...

...and was greeted by what appeared to be a construction site.

    Seriously?

    No flowers. No colourful façade.
Just equipment and what looked like scaffolding.

Thinking I had mixed up the address, I wandered around Berkeley Square and even checked nearby streets, convinced I had made a mistake.

    Nothing.

Slightly disappointed, I walked back towards the original building.

    That's when it hit me.

The "construction equipment" wasn't construction equipment at all.

    It was a boom lift.

And the "scaffolding" was actually event trussing.

I hadn't come to the wrong place.

I had arrived on façade changeover day.

    Talk about bad timing.

Still, the disappointment didn't last long.
    Mayfair itself is absolutely beautiful.

Elegant townhouses line leafy streets, luxury boutiques sit beside charming cafés, and every corner feels impeccably maintained.

One storefront in particular made me smile.

A wine merchant specialising in Champagne had decorated its façade with enormous floating bubbles.

    Completely over the top.

    Completely Mayfair.

    Completely perfect.
