• Golf Portstewart

    September 16, 2024 in Northern Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Today we travelled north to play the Portstewart Golf Club. This course was one the most amazing and difficult golf courses we have played so far . The front 9 is carved out this high grass covered sand dunes . This lead to many challenging tee shots to specified landing areas . The course had lots of ups and downs with pot bunkers in the fairways and around the greens. The course has held many tournaments including the Irish Open. The dunes run parallel to the beach of the North Atlantic.

Celeste and I took caddies who were very helpful and interesting to talk to.

The tv show Game of Thrones had various scenes filmed along the beach and dunes . Celeste’s caddie told us he and his brother were golfing and his brother’s tee shot went wayward into the dunes and he walked right into the middle of the shoot while looking for his ball.

The day was sunny and we could actually wear shorts but once again the wind was high .

We found out that in the last 13 months they have only had 14 days where there was no rain in Portstewart. Explains why everything is so green .

For dinner we went to the harbour area of Portrush to have dinner at Harbour Bar and Bistro. I had seafood which was delicious.
