    Ah, the Stanford guest house--I'm becoming quite fond of it. This is my third time here so I know the quirks and the treasures. The coffee machine is still a miracle, and the breakfast has good options. The fitness room is a shoebox of terrible, only to be used in emergencies. The rooms are small but each one has a fridge and a microwave, and the bed is comfortable. This time they were painting the exterior, so I had a view of a cherry-picker. I thought that project was going to be annoying, but after a couple days of cherry-picker and then plastic wrap on the window, it was fine. Couldn't smell the paint at all.Read more

    Eric's gourmet food and catering

    Alan cornered me for lunch, so we walked to the shopping plaza about a mile away and Eric's was actually open--I've only ever been over here at night so I've never tried it. The sandwiches are great! They're also huge, so I saved the other half for later. Then, the conference folks set up a thing where you could order from Eric's for lunch, and pick up your food at the registration table.     Came here for our EPO team dinner. A HUGE beer garden with picnic tables, right next to a creek (I was like, "am I back at Louie's?") The food was pretty average according to my co-workers, but I chose a veggie sandwich that was better than I was expecting. They had a nice beer list, so I chose Fog City Hazy IPA. Win!     I ordered pickup sushi on Monday night, and went back with Jeff, Ardis, Steph and Justine on Thursday. The tuna/mango roll is particularly good. On Thursday I had the Chirashi, which was a experiment for sure. I think Tim would like it, because you get sashimi but also rice. The rice was a little boring and I'd say there was too much for the amount of sashimi, but generally it's a good option if you want really good fish.     So cool! Would definitely do this again. You have to Uber to the trailhead and back (like $25 each way) but worth it for a time or two. I went with Steph, Clare, and Jeff at 6am.
