Local brewery! Right before the entrance gate to Zion NP. I got a flight and tried 4 different beers. Pretty sure they were all 4% abv...good old Utah. But three of the four of them were outstanding (not crazy about the pale ale, but that might just be me). I also got a reuben, which was delicious. Alix liked her burger too. The service was great.Read more

  • Angel's Landing Hike

Really good hike, but holy tons of people. Found out later this is the most popular hike in Zion, and that like 6 people have died on the trail in the last decade. Awesome. We actually started with the Emerald Pools Trail, and kind of wandered onto to this trail by accident. Steep climbs and switchbacks, really challenging. The trail is partially paved, and you wouldn't really even need boots. But then at the top, there's an extra half mile climb that is really hairy. Actually the climb itself wouldn't be so terrible, but there are people like ants all over it, and everyone is trying to climb the same route, along chains you can hold for balance. We started up, but quickly saw how dangerous it was to pass people going up and down, so we turned back. After reading about all the accidents up there, back at the hotel room, I'm glad we did. Still a great hike up to that point.Read more

Easy loop hike to pretty pools. The trail is partly paved, or sandy with steps. You wouldn't need boots, any closed shoes would be fine. It's rated as "moderate" in all the guides, but I think that's for average Zion tourists. We were ready for more when we were done, so we skipped over to Angel's Landing trail.Read more

  • Majestic View Lodge

    March 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

We stayed here two nights. This is a great hotel! The views are indeed majestic. It's right on the highway, but pretty much everything here is. You can hear traffic, but it gets lighter at night. We slept with the door to the balcony open because the weather was so nice. Rooms are clean and well-decorated. There's a very weird "natural history museum" off the lobby that is a series of dioramas featuring stuffed bears, wolves, and mountain lions. There's a restaurant with soaring windows that looked nice, but we didn't eat there because there were so many other places to try.Read more

So beautiful! We came here in early March, when normally it would be really cold, but this year we've had unusually warm weather in the Southwest. It's been mid 70s during the day, and high 40s at night. We saw turkeys just outside the park gates. I freaking love turkeys!Read more
