REVS Car Museum - Naples

A lovely morning greeted us as we headed south to Naples to visit the REVS car museum. The sky was a mix of clouds and sunshine, making for a pleasant start to another day with rain in the forecast.
The REVS Institute, as it is officially called, houses an impressive collection of around 120 classic and historic cars. We were warmly welcomed by our host, Mr. Örtli, who, much to our delight, has Swiss roots. However, he is second-generation and apologized for not speaking our native language.
With a few exceptions, REVS featured a collection of exquisite racing cars, including the world's largest private collection of Porsche racing cars. It is owned by the powerful Collier family, who have long been passionate about car racing and its history. Their enthusiasm is clearly reflected throughout the museum. A fascinating visit, even for someone who isn't necessarily a die-hard car enthusiast. What sets this museum apart is that 90% of the cars are still being periodically maintained and are in running order. The attached photos speak for themselves.
For lunch, we stopped at Spankey’s Speakeasy, a funky and original little place just half a mile away, where we enjoyed a chicken sandwich. By now, the sky looked angry, and heavy rain started just as we were leaving.
The afternoon was reserved for Ursula's shopping trip to the Miromar Outlets. I wasn't particularly interested in joining, so I decided my job was to stay behind and guard the car. Not a bad deal! A long afternoon nap was the obvious choice, and with the rain pounding on the car roof, I dozed off almost immediately.
A nice rainbow signaled the end of the rain, as we headed to Ft Myers and had dinner at Sweet Melissa’s Restaurant. The diver scallops combo with roasted pineapples and pork belly was outstanding. A very enjoyable meal, rounded off with a Sambucca, and a pleasant end to this excursion.
Back home, we briefly followed the early results of the US midterm elections on TV. The first results suggested that the Democrats were making gains and could win back a number of seats in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Of course, it was still early, and plenty of votes remained to be counted.
All in all, we are calling vacation day number three, another success!
Tomorrow, we are looking forward to a video call with Anina and Jeremy. They are currently traveling through Delaware in their camper van and are planning to join us here toward the end of next week for a two-week stay. Something nice to look forward to!Les mer
