  • Darwin City Tour

    18 de julio de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

A day in the city on the 'Hop on-Hop off' Bus! Kids absolutely loved the open air top deck and we managed to get to lots of different spots.

The WWII oil tunnels were interesting, despite never actually being used for their intended purpose.

A visit to the Museum and art gallery and then East Point War Museum where we watched a film about the bombing during WWII and seeing the huge guns and bunkers.

All topped off bumping into our friends at the lagoon where the kids went for a swim and we ended up going for dinner together at Chow!

Yummy laksa and curries but unfortunately Tom went downhill with a headache and dehydration and ended up asleep on the chairs in the restaurant and sick on the way home 🍛 😋 😍

Lottie and Toby are still very much girlfriend-boyfriend and so cute seeing them together ❤️

An afternoon catch up at the water park on Friday with our new besties and then sunset at the Mindil markets!

Lottie and Toby are still very much in love and Toby even bought her a ring 💍 ❤️ 😍

Loved the food and the sunset (not so much the 5000 other people on the beach!!!) And finished it off with a go at whipp cracking!

  • Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruise

    24 de julio de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Leaving Darwin and on our way towards Kakadu we stopped off to do the jumping croc cruise which was a bit of a disappointment...

Not much jumping because the water was a bit cold and the crocs weren't playing the game.

More a theatre display than an informative option which was a shame as was really looking forward to learning a bit more about the wildlife.... but we did get to see some beautiful aerials from the Kites circling around waiting for some titbits!

  • Kakadu - Yellow River & Nourlangie

    26 de julio de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

    Fantastic day visiting Kakadu NP!

First we stopped in at the Bowall Visitor Centre to get our bearings and stared with the Mirray Lookout walk.

Then we ventured to Yellow Water and did the board walk around the river and spotted a couple of crocs...

Then visited the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre which was a real eye opener. I loved the depth of cultural understanding it brought and certainly made the whole Kakdu experience something to remember learning more about the culture.

To finish the day we visited Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) and did the walk to see the rock art which was incredible. The whole landscape was like something you would see in Crocodile Dundee!

The lookout climb to Nawurlandja happened to coincide with a guided tour which was an incredible experience. The young guide 'Oscar' was born in Arnhem Land to a Hungarian mother and Aboriginal father and grew up in the tribe. He had a really fresh perspective on sharing the cultural wisdom so it is not lost and believed that really the white European settlers and the Aboriginal peoples were the same and not that different....

The way tribes fight between each other, steal women, force other clans to join their tribe etc. Was not that dissimilar to the invasion of the Europeans.... it was such a different perspective and I was really grateful to listen to him first hand talking about his life and upbringing and tribal experiences.

  • Bark Hut Inn

27 de julio de 2023, Australia

An awesome pub and van park to stay at on the way to Kakadu!

We met some lovely people (Travis, Nessa, Dana and Bailey) and the beautiful couple next door with Toby the dog that we ended up looking after for the day that the girls absolutely loved 😍🐕

The pub had their own resident croc and buffalo too that was fun at feeding time 6pm each night!

And the most incredible toilet block you've ever seen!

  • Kakadu - Ubirr & Cahill Crossing

    28 de julio de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Our second day trip to Kakadu to visit Ubirr and see the incredible rock art. So much to see, and the look out was amazing (really reminded me of looking out on an African plain!).

Spent a bit of time with Bella sitting at one of the sacred sites and just taking in the energy.

Then we visited Cahill Crossing; the cross over into Arnhem Land which is all 4WD and requires a permit to visit a you are entering the Aboriginal communities.

Lots of crocs to spot and fun watching people driving across the Crossing!

  • Crab Claw Island Resort

    31 de julio de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Day trip out to Crab Claw Island Resort for lunch which was a fun 16km of dirt road... but Jenny Golf did us proud (despite the air con giving up on us in 35+ degrees!!!).

Well worth the trip to experience the resort vibes. It reminded me of being on a beach in Thailand (minus the crocs!!) and lunch was amazing.

Then our friends (Travis, Nessa, Dana and Bailey) from Bark Hut Inn arrived for a day trip too so we got to spend the afternoon together which was fun!

Another great evening at the Markets! Back to buy some more earnings from the stall I love with the seeds and emu feathers 🪶 💗

Tom and Lottie had Mexican, I had a Laksa and Bella had.... chips!! Of course!

Can't beat the sunset on the beach with dinner 💓💓💓 Then finally Tom watched the whip show and I took the girls for a play in the park!

  • Parliament House - Darwin

    11 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

A fantastic tour around Parliament House to learn about the NT, how it is governed and the way Parliament is conducted.

The kids spent their time in the library and were very well behaved according to the librarian!

The tour guide even offered to take the kids and I into the chamber for a private snoop as they weren't in session (she usually shows school groups around so why not the homeschool kids too!)

Fascinating to learn how similar the governing systems are to the UK and some of the historical and ceremonial aspects. The kids got to learn about the Maice and open the despatch boxes on the front table in front of Mr Speakers Chair!

We then made our way round the museum and watched a few short videos about Darwin throughout time, and then went for a walk over to the waterfront.

  • Corroboree Wetland Cruise

    14 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Absolutely loved this wetlands cruise! The tour guide was so knowledgeable, and we learnt a lot about the birds and wildlife, as well as spotting a few crocs!!!

Hard to believe the whole area is completely flooded during the wet season.... I wonder where all the crocs go?! 🤔

We were lucky enough to see 'Lumpy' the croc that got hit by a boat prop and crushed his rib cage on one side so now his lung is external. You can literally see him breathe in and out and his lung protrudes and then concaves so much that you could put your head inside the hole 🤯

We saw the Jabiru Stork, Sea Eagles, Bee Eaters just to name a few!

  • Lake Argyle

    23 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

We did a day trip out to Lake Argyle... the largest man made lake in the Southern hemisphere, 18 x the size of Sydney Harbour and with 70 islands!

They dammed the Ord River at Kununurra and then here at Lake Argyle flooding the majority of the Durack Property.

We visited the discovery park for a swim in the infinity pool, before driving over the dam wall and then visiting the old Homestead that was moved to higher ground before the final floods.

On the way home, and for the next week we negotiated the annual burns as fire crews lit up the undergrowth along the roads. It was fascinating to watch the clouds of black smoke blowing into the sky for miles... we could see flames licking the tops of mountains and it seemed like everywhere we went we were driving into smoke!

  • Wuggubun Aboriginal Community

    24 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ 🌬 32 °C

A 45min drive from Kununurra we are staying at a small Aboriginal Community Camp-site.

A perfect spot along the creek, perfect for a dip in the crystal clear water and the day we arrived there were 2 other families with kids to play with!

Bundy the local Staffy dog hasn't left our camp and has become a welcome addition for the girls to play with!

Night time camp fires under the stars are amazing and it's a great place to access more of the Gibb and do a trip to Wyndham.

  • Wyndham & The Grotto

    25 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

A day trip to Wyndham, an old Port town that used to support a large meat works. Sadly it closed down during the war and was bombed by the Japanese and the town tried to rebuild a tourism industry based on local crocodiles (hence the giant croc on the main street!)... Unfortunately the tourism has waned over the years due to the building of the dam at Kununurra, which has meant that tourists now stick to the main highway 😔

On the way home we stopped at The Grotto for a swim! An amazing little spot where you climbed down 100+ steps into the gorge... a little precarious with no handrail and a sheer drop!

An amazing pool at the bottom kept us all cool and we all had a go on the rope swing!

  • Zebedee Springs - El Questro

    26 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

We took a trip down the sealed part of the Gibb River Road into El Questro Station to visit Zebedee Springs.

An awesome spot with little waterfalls and pools to swim in and the water was a great temperature thanks to the thermal Springs! (A bit too many people to fit though... would hate to be here on a busy day!!!)

It's been interesting driving into the Kimberleys.... not what we were expecting. The landscape is pretty but more like rolling hills than the impressive rocky cliffs and mountains we were expecting... but the gorges are beautiful 😍

  • Kimberleys - Emma Gorge

    26 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ 🌬 32 °C

This has to be one of the best gorge walks we've done, and the waterfall and swim at the end was so beautiful 😍

Water was freezing 🥶 but that didn't stop us all jumping in for a swim, and then on the way back, of course Tom managed to find a huge rock to jump off!!!!

This has to be one of my favourites so far....
