• Day 125. Dublin, Ireland.

    5月10日, アイルランド ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

Part 1. We went to the Causey Farm to learn about Irish farm life. We drove through Dublin as we left the city. The first thing we did at the farm was make our own brown Irish bread, and they baked it while we toured the farm. Then we learned an Irish dance that they use for ice breakers. It was a lot of fun. Afterward, we watched a sheep herding demonstration by one of their border collies. Then we walked around the farm and saw geese, pigs, alpacas, cows, lambs, turkeys, ducks, horses, and lamas. Then we went back to the dance shed and learned to play their ancient keltic drum, the bodhran. Finally, it was time to sample our brown soda bread and eat lunch. They served our bread with butter and jam, delicious Irish stew and scones with cream & jam. On the way to the farm, our guide told us that Ireland has a huge dairy & beef industry. The climate is perfect for making the grass green and rich with nutrients because of the limestone and beta keratin. That's why their dairy products are so good (Kerigold butter).
Hurling is #1 sport here, so we received a demonstration prior to departing.
Apartment complexes (especially older ones) have identical fronts, so "they paint the doors different colors so that when you come home after drinking 18 pints, you can find your home. We have a strong drinking and partying culture here, ya know, " is how our guide described the homes as we drove through Dublin. We noticed various colors spray painted on the sheep's coats. We were told that sheep are marked by farmers to identify their sheep. Guinness beer and triple distilled whiskey are their specialties.
