CAPE VERDE

So far, my favorite port. A change from the big cities of Brazil. We did a walking tour that gave us an over all flavor of the city of Sao Vicente, Mindelo. Really no beaches in the city center except for a small one the fisherman use. We were told that today was a good catch for the fisherman. Usually, you can only get fish in the market, but today, the fish was being sold on the streets. The cultural center was first used as a storage for coal. Now includes a theatre and local handcraft exhibition. Just like Brazil, they have a carnival. Picture of the sail boat below shows that this is what is worn in the parade instead of the big heads.
All the islands are barren, but do offer pristine beaches. It was settled by the Portugese. Now the Porto Grande Bay is stopping off point for sail boats, etc. crossing the Atlantic. At one time, it was s a base for slave warehouses. Also, the start of where hurricanes begin.Baca selengkapnya
