    July 28 in Bonaire ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Darren took six friends up to Washington Slagbaai National Park.

It is a 5,643-hectare ecological reserve in northwestern Bonaire, established in 1969. It covers roughly a fifth of the island and is managed by STINAPA Bonaire.

The park is a habitat for endemic and endangered species, including parrots, flamingos, parakeets, iguanas, and sea turtles. Its terrain features rugged roads, cacti, scrubby trees, and the island’s highest point, Mount Brandaris.

It’s a seven hour round trip through the park with stops to view geological formations, cacti, animals and blow holes.

Darren’s rental SUV got a flat tire, which led the group to a side quest for air ($2). There the tire air guy showed them parrots that he’s been feeding for 16 years.
