Bei Airlie Beach ging’s für uns mal wieder „hoch hinaus” – wortwörtlich! Diesmal haben wir uns nämlich in ein Leichtflugzeug gewagt. Schon der Start in den Tag hatte typisches „Reisechaos“-Potenzial: Die Mission „Kaffee besorgen“ scheiterte kläglich. Erst hatte das Café spontan Ruhetag, dann war auch am Flughafen schon alles dicht. Blieben uns also nur der Duft von Abenteuer...

Natürlich waren wir auch viel zu früh am Treffpunkt. Also haben wir es uns auf einer Bank vor dem Gebäude gemütlich gemacht, bereit fürs große Abenteuer – angemeldet waren wir ja schon! Die Szene, als die restlichen Teilnehmer uns suchten und die Mitarbeiterin völlig überrascht feststellte, dass wir längst da waren, hätte glatt ins Comedy-Programm gepasst.

Nach der Sicherheitseinweisung (Schwimmwesten anziehen, ganz wichtig!) ging es endlich los. Schon kurz nach dem Abheben war klar: Dieser Ausflug wird unvergesslich. Wir sind über die spektakulären Whitsunday Islands und das legendäre Great Barrier Reef geflogen, und der Ausblick war einfach nur atemberaubend! Was eigentlich als „scenic flight“ geplant war, wurde durch Zufall auch noch zum „Whalewatching“-Erlebnis – plötzlich tauchte eine riesige Gruppe Buckelwale unter uns auf🐋. Wir haben einige Ehrenrunden über dem fröhlichen Getummel gedreht, unsere Nasen an die Fenster gedrückt und gegrinst wie Honigkuchenpferde.

Doch das Meer hatte noch mehr Highlights parat: Wir haben den berühmten Strand aus „Fluch der Karibik“ erspäht und das legendäre herzförmige Riff bestaunt 💕

#At Airlie Beach, we found ourselves “soaring high” once again—quite literally this time! We actually dared to hop into a tiny light aircraft. The day started off with classic “travel chaos” vibes: our mission to find coffee failed miserably. First, the café was closed for a spontaneous day off, and then everything at the airport was already shut too. So all we had left was the scent of adventure…

Naturally, we showed up way too early at the meeting point. So we made ourselves comfortable on a bench outside the building, already checked in and fully prepared for the big adventure! The moment when the other participants were searching for us and the staff member suddenly realized, totally surprised, that we had been there the whole time—honestly, it could’ve been straight out of a comedy sketch.

After the safety briefing (life jackets on—super important!), we finally took off. Just moments after takeoff, it was clear: this trip would be unforgettable. We flew over the stunning Whitsunday Islands and the legendary Great Barrier Reef, and the views were nothing short of breathtaking! What was meant to be a “scenic flight” spontaneously turned into a whale-watching experience—a huge group of humpback whales suddenly appeared beneath us 🐋. We circled around their cheerful splash-fest, pressed our noses against the windows, and grinned from ear to ear.
