  • Athens

    May 21, 2024 in Greece ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

And back in Europe. Acropolis and ancient agora were quite nice, the other locations are quite small in comparison. I especially liked the agora with the reconstructed Stoa (covered walkway, probably market stalls) you can walk in, it's a lot more impressive than some ruins that you can't get close to.Read more

  • Singapore

    May 17, 2024 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

The contrast to the other countries is stark.
So much green space in the city, and it's really quiet. In some places you even walk next to the highway but can barely hear it.
Probably since there isn't that much traffic with the good public transport and a proper city design with noise cancelling architecture.
It feels pleasant to walk around here, and it doesn't really matter in what direction you go. Everywhere there is something inviting to discover, even if it's just some stores or cafes.
You never feel out of place and no one bothers you while you walk around.

Just relaxing a bit before the flight. Not too touristy here but plenty of restaurants, cafes etc.
    Otherwise nothing special here.

  • Nusa Penida

    May 5, 2024 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    Probably some diving.
After that back to Bali, maybe some surf beach. Then 15th flying to Singapore for few days then to Greece Athens.
The West side is a lot better than the north, but in general everything is very stretched out over the island. You really want or need a scooter, at least if you want to go to the picture stops for tourists.Read more

  • Saigon district 5

    April 14, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

A bit more exploring of Saigon.
Went towards Chinatown, there is a flower market on the way. Lots of colored flowers.
A whole city block with lots of repair shops for bikes and tons of spare parts, even quite old parts too. A temple or two was also in the way.
Lots of markets too, most either for food especially dried or spices. And others just for clothing, with dozens of small independent stalls.

  • Cu Chi Tunnels

    April 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

Historic site of the underground tunnels the Vietnamese used as their bases in the war.

We went there with 6 people in a private car, there were supposed to be guides there to take us around. But weirdly we didn't get any guides, so sadly we didn't learn too much about it.Read more

  • Ho Chi Minh aka. Saigon

    April 6, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌙 29 °C

Big city and finally the public transport is in Google Maps, so you can get around easily without grab/taxi.

Watched dune 2 with couple people in the hostel, sadly a let down. Didn't know they split the move in three parts(at least), thought there were only going to be two. So it looked pretty but not much happened most of the movie.
Cinema room was nice though, leather seats, that can fully recline and lots of space between people and rows.

Went to the war remnant museum and Independence Palace, showed how brutal the war was in the end.
The museum primarily focused on the war crimes and atrocities, like the chemical warfare with stuff like "agent Orange". Used to deforest but at the same time caused a lot of human injuries and birth defects.

Town in the Highlands, a bit less heat in the day here. But no air-conditioning anywhere, so still hot indoors most of the time;)
Visited the "crazy house" there, which is basically more of an art Installation than house/hotel. Lots of wall paintings and hardly any right angles. Reminds you of Friedrichsreich Hundertwasser meets fairy tale theme. (Like a theme park without the rides)

And i went to one of the summer palaces of the king.

  • Nha Trang

    April 1, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Another beach town, a bit bigger and busier. There was some sort of concert/festival going on at the beach in the evenings. The streets were just packed with people and bikes at that time.

  • Quy Nhon

    March 30, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

A beach town, otherwise there isn't much. Probably the same as the next couple towns I go to, they will just be vacation cities on the beach.

  • Hoi an

    March 23, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

I went to Da Nang and heard about the lantern festival in hoi an on the full moon so i only stayed one night there. Going back to da nang to travel further afterwards.
The festival was nothing special, it's every day. The only extra thing is they turn off the electric lights for one hour. But they don't really replace them with candles or lanterns, so it's just darker.
But I met nice people here, so it was worth the change of plans to come here;)
Bicycle to the beach in the day and stroll around the river markets and bars in the evening.

    March 22, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

On the day before Hoi an, i saw the dragon bridge. It spews fire and water on the weekend and 2100.

There aren't too many sights in the city, guess most of it is outside when you have a scooter.

  • Hue

    March 20, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Made my way down from Ninh Binh to Hue, one overnight in Vinh. But it was non stop raining, so i kept moving. Could be a nice non touristy city, quite new-ish. Since it was destroyed in the war.
Waiting out a bit the rain here.
Visited the imperial city here as well. And it's big enough to fit a small city.

  • Ha Long Bay Boat Trip

    March 16, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Half day boat trip, looks a bit similar to Khao Sok national park with the limestone mountains peaking out of the water.
There was a bamboo boat tour included or kayak, and a walk through a stalactite cave.Read more

Still got a bit of a cold, so haven't done hiking yet.Read more

    March 12, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

  • Ha Giang Loop, Day2

    March 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

On day 2, we went through Meo Vac to the river and had a small river cruise there.
We stayed overnight in Dong Van.
The weather noticeably cleared up, so we had great visibility.

  • Ha Giang Loop, Day1

    March 10, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Ha Giang loop is a popular motorbike route through the limestone hills and mountains.
You can either rent a scooter or get an easy rider, basically a driver that takes you on the back of his bike around.
I did the 3 day 2 night tour with Odyssey hostel. We were 4 people in the group plus the 4 easyrider.

The first day was very foggy and cloudy, so we couldn't see much.
We went first to heavens gate then to du gia waterfall with a lunch stop somewhere in between and stayed overnight close to the waterfall.

I thought Bangkok was busy, kuala Lumpur even more. welcome to Hanoi, even busier and more chaotic on the roads, hardly any place to walk due to parked bikes and stores, so you mostly walk on the road and dodge the motor bikes.
And so much pointless honking, non stop.
