    Kuala Lumpur

    Took the bus to get here instead of Ipoh and Cameroon Highlands. Too much rain going on right now, wouldn't do any hikes in that weather anyways. And well it's raining out of buckets here now too.
    Kuala Lumpur is quite busy as it was to be expected. Tons of traffic and all the food or market streets are packed with people.    Meer informatie

    George Town

    Passed through Hat Yai, the Fifth largest town, but for travelers primarily a waypoint on the way to Malaysia.
    Took the train to Padang Besar on the border, crossed over and then the train to Butterworth and the ferry to George Town. Could pay all by with a card, there was no need to change cash in advance.Meer informatie

    Ko Lanta

    Moved to Ko Lanta after one night in Krabi and will stay here for 3. Then Hat Yai on the way to Malaysia.

    Ko Lanta is a very calm relaxed beach area. I'm staying on Long Beach.
    Did the 4 island boat tour with a bit of snorkeling. Long boat ride on long boat ;)
    Snorkeling was okay, only a few things to see. Diving is probably better. Altogether more of a chill nice day trip, not a WOW experience.    Meer informatie

    Ko Tao

    Went from Khao Sok to Ko Phangan for a night. Party Island or more like spring break. I hardly saw someone approaching 25 here.
    Next day onwards to Ko Tao.
    Going to stay here for like a week, just diving.

    Diving is quite nice here. Hostel/Resort is also quite comfortable and a nice community with other drivers.    Meer informatie

    Khao Sok on the Lake

    Sadly had stomach problems on my second day here, when the 2 day 1 night cave tour in the park started. So I didn't see the actual cave with bats and spiders, just chilled on the lake bungalows mostly.
    Otherwise you do some safari from the boat to look for monkeys and toucans.    Meer informatie

    Khao Sok

    Took an early Van ride there and learned that in Thailand there are no road laws... At most guide lines.
    120 in a 50 zone in a minivan? No problem.
    Overtake on the left, sure thing.
    Indicators? Ah let's not, or ignore even better use the wrong one!
    Phone while driving why not? (My driver here was remarkably disciplined, and barely did that, only 6 times but who is counting)
    The Vans suspensions were quite good, managed quite well with the road conditions. Certainly bounced smoothly.

    Did a small evening hike in the park and a canoe trip down the river.    Meer informatie

    Hua hin

    Going South by train.
    First Stop Hua Hin.
    Not much to do or see here, seems to be just a popular vacation place for seniors or a pass though place.
    Bit European style, at least lot of tourist restaurants.
    Barely saw a handful of young people.    Meer informatie

    Trieste

    12 november 2023, Italië

    Flew over to Trieste, instead of going further down to Greece and then up the long way through Italy. It's Getting a bit too cold and wet. Might be time to take a short breather, downsize the backpack to flying size and look for warmer pastures.

    Trieste, Habsburg influenced city. It was not very touristy, even though some cruise ships start their journey here.
    Many Cafés, bars and restaurants near their main canal with many broad pedestrian streets around it.
    Invites to linger and slow down.

    The seafront was quite damaged from the storms, and many parts on the way to the Castle Miramare need repairs.
    Also parts of the park seemed closed, or at least the doors towards the street. So take the bus to the last stop, there is an open entrance.    Meer informatie

    Berat

    Berat, an old small City with a nice castle, that people still live in, and a small very quiet old town.
    One big promenade with lots of Cafes and bars.
    You already notice it's getting really late in the season, a few places close at the end of October or started renovations.
    Berat is also advertised as the city of thousands and one windows, but that is just a translation error that Marketing picked up. It's window above window, since the houses on the hills are above each other.    Meer informatie

    Tirana

    Tirana the capital, very busy and lots of people and cars moving about. But once you duck into some side roads you have lots of cafes and restaurants. Two completely different atmospheres right next to each other.
    Nice calm lake in walking distance of the city to relax at.    Meer informatie

    Lezhe

    Nice little town at the coast with another peaceful castle ruin with great views.
    Walk along the beach of Shengjin, enjoying a cloud covered sunset with some free roaming cows.
