    Cardiff

    Took photo of Cardiff Park, now renamed. Did self tour of Cardiff Castle. The rooms were so ornately decorated. I have bought a book on the castle which shows this. Also went up the Keep which is on the original sight of the Norman Castle built about 1081. The present one is from around 1700s. It was raining lightly for the afternoon and we have had a break at the hotel before heading out to Welsh Folk evening. Dinner included.En savoir plus

    This ancient city of baths is a fascinating place . You get to wander around the old bath areas, see sauna and spa used by both the English in Jane Austin times and by the Romans.

    Glastonbury

    Deemed very special. Joseph of Aramathea said to come here to get tin. Tomb found of Arthur and Gunivere. Became a place of pilgrimage. Travelling through sedge marsh. Henry 8th destroyed most heritage of any king. Glastonbury Abbey destroyed at this time.En savoir plus

    Heading to Plymouth

    Back on the causeway made from stones from the abbey. Six hundred years ago this land would be a marsh land with secret tracks through. Imagine the pilgrims finding their way to the Abbey. 1685 Charles ii died and eldest illegitimate son rebelled. Was Duke of Monmouth. Lost battle. Beheaded before portrait painted. Had to get parts together to repaint!

    Lovely villages being passed by. This area had severe flooding a few years ago and they are in some cases just recovering.    En savoir plus

    After a brief orientation, this town looks to be very interesting. After travelling through very narrow country lanes onto freeway, then back into small town streets we are at the hotel.

    Travelling to St Ives .

    Tin miner fisherman and 15 gold coins on Cornish flags. Laughing at white van drivers who seem to be notoriously bad drivers . . . . Castle freight plane in forecourt. Cornwall is a very hilly area with lots of wide open spaces. Lots of wind farms. Cornwall has always been a county not a shire. Just passed a sign saying Bodmin . Unfortunately we are heading in a different direction. We actually skirt it. Jamaica Inn is on this moor.

    St Ives is a town of little narrow streets with cobbled stones, aged by many feet. The beach was ringed by a break water and lined with shops selling food from fish and chips to pasties. Ice cream shops fudge and trinket places along with chemist and clothes. All seem to be run from little places about room size. Found it intriguing and just as you would imagine but crowds definitely not fun. Glad to have been, seen eaten pasties and clotted cream ice cream.    En savoir plus

    Lands End

    Mad traffic today. Director Henry says he hasn't seen it like this for a while. All good . The roads are lined with trees, elder and oak , I think and as they have grown they have created a roof above the roadway.

    Right at the furtherest point of land in England, been there, done that.    En savoir plus

    Brighton

    Went through the Pavillion. What opulence! A a array of rooms dressed in oriental style. The dining room is light by an enormous chandler held to the ceiling by a dragon set on a palm tree then down to various ornamentation to this massive crystal chandelier. The bed rooms were surprisingly austere after the other rooms. Went back to bus area with enough time to duck across to the Albion Hotel. Had drinks sitting in a huge lounge facing Brighton Pier.En savoir plus

    Back in London

    Well, 21 days on the road completed. Been to Kinky Boots and now going to see what is for breakfast. One more day and I am off to Vancouver. Out this morning for last walk through hotel area the off to Underground to meet Ryan and Susan.

    I had the most wonderful afternoon with FAMILY. WHAT BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN Olivia and Ryan are. A joy to meet them. Had a very easy trip through the tube with Ryan in charge. Greg collected us from the station and delivered us back at the end of the visit.
