Melrose Abbey

This ancient ruin was originally the site of Cisterian monks and was established in 1136. They believed in a very austere life dedicated to God. Life would have been very hard and prayer was a vital part of their daily lives along with hard work and almost poverty vows.Okumaya devam et

Edinburgh Tour

Off to see the castle today. Three hour tour of city and lots of walking the day turned out very hot with a potential high of 30 degrees. The Castle is set on a volcanic plug at the highest point around. The Scottish crown jewels are kept here. You walk up 500 to reach the castle entry. On coming out you can wander around the cobbled streets seeing churches and castles and little close. The photos show a close entry and the gates to the Queens residence.

What a wonderful evening. We went out to a Scottish kaylee night (spelling). Wonderful bagpipes. Just love the sound. There was song, music, stories along with lovely food and company. Had a salmon entree, tasted haggis and toasted it and followed up with lovely serving of pork belly. All very small servings, almost deputation. David Vernonia, the accordionist, comes to Upper Hutt Cossie Club in February so need to keep a look out for that.Okumaya devam et

Well, had written up info and forgot to save. Travelled out along waterfront and now raining Scottish mist! On into Fife? And crossed new bridge. Photo is of old one.

It is great to have history told as we move along the motorways. The area we are travelling now is great growing area.

Been to see golf course in rain. No photo no visibility. Lovely township even in rain. Spent 30 minutes finding coffee and very tasty walnut and date scone. The houses are built of stone and are what I would have imagined it to be 100s of year ago. Most places have lovely gardens. The old golf course was discussed and apparently the new one is very good too. Had a look for Sharon, Phil, Robyn and Dave.

Went to Leuchars Airbase. Photos give wet indication of homes. Airbase hosts an airshow. As we head for Perth the crops line the sides of the road. Seedling are just coming up and potatoes are well on their way to cropping.

Crossed the Tay to get to Dundee. Renown for jam jute and journalism. This city centre was by passed. Wrong side to get photo of new Tay Bridge. The original collapsed. The weather and weight of train caused the collapse and design, weather and train were blamed . Tay is a river often ignored. Floods quite seriously.

Stopped here for lunch and buying of some souvenirs. We had a full hour here and the rain has eased. Will try to get photos as we leave, of the main street. Wee chuckle at Indian shop keeper with a Scottish accent. Reminded me of Heather saying she went into a dairy and found the same thing.

Stopped at Culloden. Went for a walk to both battle lines and the heavens opened. In spite of that we'll worth the walk. We then by passed Inverness and headed for our accommodation.Okumaya devam et

GezginSurely was wet. My rain proof coat was not so got quite wet. But managed to walk the battlefield. So sad and such a waste! When I think of the families left to survive.

The hotel is like an old castle. And like the old castle is surely has character. My bedroom is a single which is nice. The window is a casement one. The shower defeated me though. Wonderful

Macbeth Country

Dingle Macbeth birth place. Query James 6 author? Photo Crommity Firth. Rail bridge over Firth. Today's route is supposedly a very beautiful one. Working so far with sunshine on water start. Photo of oil rigs in Firth. The land around this area is very fertile and we pass field of crops planted out in patchwork. A real picture of rural life. The fourth photo is of "Spite Castle" or real name Blairsville Castle. Passing brown peat stained streams. Houses are more remote with little villages in between. Barren hills line the road, but interspersed woodland and estates. Fishing as we fish is not done. The estates are run for profit or for those who can afford it. Knocken Crag

I think spelling is nearly correct. Fantastic view. This point is where two plates separated millenia ago.

From Knocken Crag we went a few minutes down the road to Ullapool. This is a small fishing /tourist village. So pleasant to wander in the sunshine. Managed to get down to the water and put my fingers in the Highland tide. Only a short break for lunch (Ullapool smoked salmon).Okumaya devam et

Had a lovely break at Ullapool. Lunch was Ullapool, smoked salmon by that name. A delightful village to amble around. The red ball in the second photo is an old mine we think.
