The Ichetucknee Trace is the historical route of the Ichetucknee River, which used to flow from Alligator Lake in Lake City to what is now the Ichetucknee Head Spring. The first purchase for Ichetucknee Trace was in 2000 when 357 acres are acquired for $23 million at the Anderson Columbia Limerock Mine to protect the Ichetucknee from blasting operations. The mine is located above underground caves that are part of the Ichetucknee River system, The mines are inaccessible at this time.
The Ichetucknee Trace encompasses approximately 2,786 acres of land, with a portion of it already acquired by the state, leaving around 1,707 acres still needing to be acquired.
