Daytona HOG Chapter to The Mason Jar

Iris, Michelle, Tracey, me! We rode with about 30 other bikes from Teddy Morse Harley Davidson to Umatilla. Lunch place was very country. I had the BLT and greens. Really good!

Umatilla to Lake City

Umatilla to Lake City - Some work at McDonald's before I hit the road. I stopped in Keystone Heights for fuel and put on my rain gear. Rain started less than 5 minutes after I was back on the road. Rained pretty hard sometimes. It finally quit just at Lulu. Staying at Best Western - inexpensive and nice room. After unloading the bike and taking off rain gear, I rode back out for a Pub Sub - the Ultimate - paired with a delightful Josh Cab. Glad to be warm and dry!Leggi altro

Seeing the parks a bit out of order today because they’re spread out and numbered oddly. This is a beautiful park. It’s very quiet and I got some work done. There’s a park Ranger in his little white pick up who is not at all happy about me riding my motorcycle around on the sidewalks…Leggi altro

41 Big Shoals State Park

I first went into the park at the Little Shoals entrance. Then I took Road 1 to Big Shoals. 4 miles of gravel, sugar sand, streams running across the road, pine needles... but I did it! The Big Shoals park was small, but it had a bathroom. I walked down to the canoe launch. Really beautiful curve on the Suwanee River.
Also I called the bike mechanic and ordered new tires to be put installed on Thursday. After the ride through the forest I'm lucky to not have punctured tires!Leggi altro

Gravel, sand, sugar sand, loose dirt, wood-chipper mulch, ponds, a stream running across the road, a tree down in the road...
My Heritage continues to identify as an adventure bike. Her pronouns are "gravel-schmavel" and "hell yeah."
4 miles through the forest, you can see so many trees down from Hurricane Helene back in October of 2024. The whole Big Bend area of Florida is still recovering.Leggi altro

Day 2 is over and I'm exhausted. 136 miles, 4 of them off-road. I'm lucky I didn't puncture a tire. Or fall over.
First Steinhatchee stop - The Jiffy Store. 6 pack of Coors Light.
Then on to Sea Hag marina. Cute little cabin, the cats all came to visit, but the dog was busy across the street and never came over. Breakfast-lunch-dinner of champions: PBJ on hamburger buns. Turned in early.Leggi altro

Sunset & Fireworks from the Reed Bridge

I got a great spot on top of the bridge to watch the fireworks. They were launched from a barge in the river just east of the bridge. Great way to end the day. Rain is forecast for tomorrow. I covered the bike seat with a trash bag.Leggi altro

The wilderness trial sign I had mapped to take a picture of is no more, thanks to Hurricane Helene. Right now I'm holed up in the Mayo Cafe waiting out a storm. If I happen to see a sign for the trail at O'Leno State Park I'll add the photo here.
In the meantime, at least I'm dry and won't be hungry again until Tuesday.Leggi altro

The secondary spring at the first parking lot had two divers in it when I got there. They said it's about 130 feet deep. Lots of trees down, like everywhere, from Helene.
I followed the sign to the main parking lot at Peacock Springs, but after the rain it was a bit slippery. I turned back out 1/3 of the way to the main spring. #NotAnAdevntureBikeLeggi altro

The Ichetucknee Trace is the historical route of the Ichetucknee River, which used to flow from Alligator Lake in Lake City to what is now the Ichetucknee Head Spring. The first purchase for Ichetucknee Trace was in 2000 when 357 acres are acquired for $23 million at the Anderson Columbia Limerock Mine to protect the Ichetucknee from blasting operations. The mine is located above underground caves that are part of the Ichetucknee River system, The mines are inaccessible at this time.
The Ichetucknee Trace encompasses approximately 2,786 acres of land, with a portion of it already acquired by the state, leaving around 1,707 acres still needing to be acquired.Leggi altro
