  • Huayhuash

    3–7 apr. 2024, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

Completed 5 days / 54 km of the Huayhuash circuit. Our original plan was to do 8 but Sam doesn't like bogs, rain, or rivers, and got a bit ill so we called it at day 5 having already made quite a good way! Almost the whole hike is above 4,000 m with each day having a pass to get over, the highest of which was over 5,000 m on day 4!

The hike is incredibly rural, most of the time the nearest village is a days walk away, and the village we stopped in day 5, Huayllapa, had almost no way out of it. Luckily we met another group who were leaving and their guide gave us a lift to the nearest town with a bus (4 hours away!). Took us a full day to get back to Huaraz where we pigged out on well deserved pizza after 5 days of noodles and garlic parmesan mash potato.

  • Medellin

    13–15 apr. 2024, Colombia ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Medellín was an interesting city. The area we were staying in was very modern, full of digit nomads who spent time in fancy cafes, and a lot of amazing street art. On the other hand, when we visited the city center it was the most poverty stricken we have seen. Every metre was another person begging or sleeping on the street, often with severe disabilities and birth defects. It was definitely a bit of a shock, and perhaps demonstrates some of the dark past of Medellín.Läs mer

  • Santa Cruz - Galapagos

    18–22 apr. 2024, Ecuador ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Left our bags in Bogotá and headed to the Galapagos with just our swimsuits and snorkel gear! There is such an incredible amount and diversity of wildlife on these islands that we felt incredibly privileged to see and snorkel and dive with.

Santa Cruz is the most touristy/commercial of the islands, with lots of souvenir shops and nice restaurants. But still you can see sea lions lying everywhere through the town, and looking into the water from the pier you see golden rays and baby blacktip reef sharks.

We went on two dives, to Gordon's Rock where we saw a whole family of hammerheads! And to Seymour where we saw some sleeping white tips.

  • Isla Isabela - Galapagos

    22–25 apr. 2024, Ecuador ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Isabela was our favourite island for snorkelling. We spent quite a lot of time at Concha de Perla, a free snorkelling spot where we saw everything we'd ever want to! We also visited Isla Tintoreras, just off Isabela which was possibly the best snorkelling we'll ever do - had white tip reef shark nurseries and penguins flying around the water. While on land we took ourselves off on a little cycle tour where we got to see a tortoise nursery and the remains of an old prison which was on the island.Läs mer

  • San Cristobal - Galapagos

    26 apr.–1 maj 2024, Ecuador ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

San Cristóbal was the sea lion island. There were so many! The island was a mixture of the other two, not too busy or too quiet. We dived at Kicker rock which is famous for its hammerhead populations but unfortunately we had very bad visibility so didn't see any, but did have a fun interaction with a turtle. Better than our dives was our time snorkelling with the sea lions at Tijeretas.Läs mer
