    Der Nebel öffnet und verschließt die Berge, auf denen Schneereste liegen. Leichter Nieselregen. Der Wind ist kalt. Mit neun Grad spüre ich den letzten Julitag.

    Allerdings muss ich gestehen, dass mein Outfit mit kurzer Hose und Frühsommerjacke gewisslich nicht der Witterung angemessen ist.

    Wir sind zum zweiten Mal an einem nördlichen Punkt. Dieses Mal nahe dem Arctic Circle auf dem Saltfjellet, dessen höchster Punkt bei 692 Meter liegt. Dies in Relation zur erhobenen Landmasse betrachtet, bringt diese alpine Landschaft hervor.

    Straße. Eisenbahnlinie. Oben überm Berg soll die alte Straßenführung sein, die ich 1972 befahren habe. Rechts von uns die Stromleitung, die über Land geht.

    Vom Gefühl her sind wir dort angekommen, wo wir uns vom Norden verabschieden können. Ich wollte nochmals in dieser kargen Landschaft sein, die so voller Erinnerungen ist.

    Und ich wollte hier anhalten.

    The fog parts to reveal and then conceals the mountains, which still hold patches of snow. A light drizzle falls. The wind is cold. At nine degrees, I can feel that it is the last day of July. I must admit, however, that my outfit—shorts and an early-summer jacket—is certainly not suited to the weather. We have reached a northern point for the second time. This time, it is near the Arctic Circle on the Saltfjellet plateau, which reaches a peak elevation of 692 meters. Viewed in the context of the elevated landmass, this creates an alpine landscape. Road. Railway line. The old road—the one I drove on back in 1972—is said to run over the mountain above us. To our right, the overland power line. It feels as though we have arrived at the place where we can bid farewell to the North. I wanted to return to this stark landscape, so filled with memories. And I wanted to stop here.
