Ich bin sehr neugierig, was für Geräusche Rentiere machen, außer mampf mampf. Also mal nachgefragt.

SCANDINAVIA TOUR
Day 48
14/08/2026
Tänndalens Badplats, Sweden
I’m really curious about what kind of sounds reindeer make—aside from the sound of munching. So, I decided to find out.

From inside the bus, they seem silent, yet they constantly fascinate me with the way they move, wait, and eventually leave—though their departure rarely amounts to a panicked flight.
Their rutting calls are far more emotional and vary greatly in pitch; some are so high-pitched that they come as a complete surprise.

I love watching these animals; we’re traveling through their home territory right now, so we have plenty of encounters with them.
About thirty kilometers north of Särna, Route 311 becomes truly interesting—remote and full of variety.
There are places I recognize, and a multitude of interesting spots to camp by the river.
I lack the enthusiasm for solitary campsites; if I were traveling with someone else, I think I’d enjoy it. That might surprise some people who think of me as a lone wolf.
But let’s be honest: the night is a completely different world from the day. If you’re interested in exploring this further, I recommend Alvah Simon’s book *North to the Night* (German title: *Nördlich der Nacht*), though it’s now only available through used book dealers.
It’s not just about the fear of real dangers, but about long-past experiences that choose to resurface at night. In fact, I have almost no connection to my childhood; only brief fragments from the first ten years of my life remain.
Now that I’m on the road and getting older, this is becoming increasingly apparent.
We end up parked by the roadside, sandwiched between two other campers. It rains heavily during the night, though I slept right through it. That, too, is very strange
We cross the Norwegian border early in the sunshine and, after fifty kilometers, find a lovely spot by Aursunden—a vast lake situated between Brekken and Glåmos.
Sakrisvolden, located north of the lake, is the only place in Scandinavia where *Aster sibiricus* grows.Read more
