• Inca Trail Day 1

    May 17 in Peru 🌙 13 °C

We are a bit behind on posting because from Tuesday to Friday last week we were in the Andes wilderness hiking the Inca Trail to Maccu Pichu!

The first day was an early 4am pickup and we drove to Ollantaytambo to km82 which is the start of the trail in the national park. Along the way we picked up our fellow hikers. We had 2 brits, 2 dutchies, and 4 Americans in our group. By the end of the week we all got quiet close and I can see us staying in touch. The brits have already asked us to join their fantasy premiere league pool next year and the dutchies say we have to come over next time we are in Holland. We definitely lucked out with our group!

The first day of hiking was 16km along the Incan "flats". Translation: it was hilly! It was a long day of hiking but eased us into the journey. A highlight was the food! We were endlessly impressed by what the chef cooked for us in a tent kitchen.

Along the way we stopped at some Incan ruins where we received our first "lecture" from our tour guide Ivan.

It was a long day and the campsite was a welcome site!
