Day 2

We got up early and went for breakfast in the hotel as they had a deal, wasn’t great but was enough to give us energy! Slightly jet lagged night and was awake at 1am for a bit but thankfully got back to sleep.
We then set off got the underground to the main line to another island in the east of Hong Kong. I’ve been impressed with the underground and trains here as everything is clean and on time and it’s contactless for everything and cheap! When we got there we opted for the cable car all the way to the top of the mountain over huge forests. Honk kong is built up city in the middle of a jungle! They don’t do houses and all accommodation are huge skyscraper apartment blocks.
One thing I didn’t mention yesterday was the humidity! It’s so humid even when it isn’t sunny. We now realise everything is built around the humidity. Every single building and everywhere you walk is all in air con and bridges connect each building with shade in the city! So you rarely actually have to walk outside. On our first day we couldn’t understand why it wasn’t great for pedestrians but now realise you almost have to walk on a higher level and walk between buildings on foot bridges!
We got the cable car up after a short queue! Amazing views over the jungle and it took about 25 minutes to reach the Big Buddha which involved a lot of steps in the heat to make! We had a walk around it and also visited a monastery there which had some really well kept and ornate rooms with incense everywhere!
After this we took a cable car down (luckily got oour own one!) and had some lunch in Shake Shack. It’s fast food but as far as fast food goes it was the best I’ve had! By some chance we also noticed that the train station by the cable cars had a huge outlet so I picked to some new trainers (needed something with more spring as walking a ton). Sinead picked up some bath stuff. Very cheap prices.
We then took the train back to our island (Hong Kong island). We got off a stop early and walked through the financial district which was filled with designer shops and big banks. The British influence is huge here as we passed Marks and Spencer and Harvey Nics! All of the Chinese were on suits. We went by the port to book tickets for our ferry over to Macau (another island) for Monday.
Dropped off bags and chilled in the hotel for an hour or so before heading back out for food. Initially the place I’d wanted to trip had a massive queue to get in so we stumbled into a noodle restaurant instead. Had some amazing noodles with pork and shared some chive dumplings. Everything here is with chopsticks so slowly getting the hand of it and good for me forces me to eat slower!
After we went for some gin cocktails in a local bar. Temperature is great at night despite it being humid during the day, so you can sit outside at night in shorts and T-shirt easily. Fought through the jet lag today which is almost and got to bed late so wouldn’t wake up in the middle of the night.Read more
