• Day 12

    16 juni, Zuid-Korea ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Another great coffee spot this morning. I’m slowly working my way round Seouls coffee shops, so far they rarely miss! After my coffee we tried a new breakfast spot in Hong Dae. Was nice minus the fact my eggs turned out to be cold egg salad! The mango and passion fruit smoothie was amazing. We also stopped by one of the many Photo Booth shops they have in Korea. They are really popular and cheap for what you get. We actually messed up the first unit but worked it out eventually.

After a hearty breakfast and photo we took the metro to our first market that we were visiting the Namdaemun market. It was slightly disappointing as the market was under construction and a bit of a building site but was still busy and we popped a few tourist shops to pick up some bits and pieces. After another coffee we walked up another market (about 45 mins) to Gwangjang market. We found a cool pedestrianised river section to walk through which had stepping stones to cross. This next market was much better and we walked through the textiles section to the street food section which was bustling and smelt amazing. We started with some Korean fried chicken and then shared some of dumplings (kimchi and veg ones) at another stall. They had Gordon Ramsey photos on their stall as he had apparently tried their street food before! I’ll have to watch that episode of when he visits Korea now!

We then tried some mung bean pancake which is a nice savoury pancake and for dessert found a cinnamon pancake with sugar called Hotteok which was like a churro folded in half with cinnamon! Unfortunately as we were finishing up the heavens opened and even though the market was covered the rain was so heavy it’s came through a bit. We took shelter in a tourist shop and I picked up a canvas print of Seoul as a memento for £7!

After another 2 metros back (including accident going the wrong way and having to change direction) we arrived back at the hotel. For dinner we walked around our area more and found another Korean BBQ spot. I really like the area we are in as lots of nice coffee shops, cake shops and restaurants. We shared some Korean beef that was cooked for us on our table with some veg. In Korea it is standard to get kimchi ginger and wasabi for free which was nice with the meat!

We then went to a bistro across the road for a drink after. we both hd some really good highballs. Last spot of the night was a little French/korean place. It smelt of garlic as soon as you came in and reminded me of the restaurant in Edinburgh I used to KP in! We then called it a day after another busy day and lots of walking.
