• Day 11

    15. juni, Sør-Korea ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

This morning we tried something a bit different from the normal eggs for breakfast. We went to an oats place and had a nice Greek yogurt bowl. Mine was with bananas honey and chocolate and Sinéad had some fruit. Washed down with some fresh passionate juice! It was a tiny place in a little beach hut by the park. There’s no way you’d notice it if you walked past!

After a hearty breakfast we walked along the park towards Hong Dae Street. The shopping mall we entered was filled with anime and video game characters. A bit like the Japanese the Koreans absolutely love that type of stuff and the place was packed. We had lunch in a Mexican restaurant and shared some nachos with 2x beef tacos each. They were tasty and served with coriander and lime!

After lunch and another great coffee we decided to take the metro towards the south of Seoul across the bridge. Our aim was to rent bikes there to cycle round the Youshida park. Luckily today was much better and it was sunny and warm. Luckily I picked up a fan for free from a street vendor. We took 2 metros to get there (Seoul isn’t as connected as HK) we walked into the park which hugs the river. Instead of renting two separate bikes we opted for the tandem one with the sun roof (like the one from chucklevision). We went for 30 mins slot and cycled around the park in the bike lane.

After the cycle we stocked up on more water and headed back towards our side of town across the river. Instead of going back and changing we just opted for going out on for dinner on route home. Before food however we went for a rooftop drink (think we’ve overdone the rooftop bars as they hike the prices up big time!) Korea is famous for fried chicken but we discovered an oven baked chicken place which Gordan Ramsey had been to and apparently loved (photos of him on the window). We opted for a platter to share and it didn’t disappoint. Was really crispy skin and was really juicy, probably some of the best chicken I’ve had!

After dinner we slowly sauntered back to the hotel and managed to fit in one last drink at n Italian bistro place opposite from where we are staying. Sinéad have a glass of white and I had a white vermouth. Although not served with ice or an olive it was still refreshing and I’d been craving one since Valencia!
