    Marina Sands Hotel

    Raffles for a Singapore Sling... Very cheesy music not really fitting with the venue and could be missed from the Singapore Itinerary. Marina Sands Hotel Skypark at night... Definitely recommend. Gardens by the Bay winter wonderland... Bit weird in 30 degree heat and foamy snow 😂😂😂Læs mere

    Arrived in Christchurch and fabulous reunion with Ali and Jill. Great to be back visting again. Went for a walk around Christchurch. Walked past these sweet peas and had food at C1 Espresso cafe where food is delivered to your table through pneumatic tubes!Læs mere

    Owaka to Curio Bay

    Today we travelled to Curio Bay with stop off at the Whistling Frog Cafe and McLean Falls. Extremely fortunate to swim with Hector Dolphins in the surf (Southern Ocean!) and watched the Yellow Eyed Penguins come on to the beach. Drove to Waupapa Point Lighthohse and saw the fossilised forest. We stayed the night in Bayview Backpackers, Waikawa.Læs mere

    Stewart Island Day 1

    Arrived at Bluff at 8.30am to catch the ferry to Stewart Island. Whilst waiting to see if we can get a seat on the 9.45am crossing I went to get coffee and tea from the local cafe and was treated to a museum tour and cinema experience of Aurora Australis whilst waiting - only in NZ!

    We managed to get on the 9.45am boat and with a strong breeze and good swell we had a roller coaster of a ride, arriving at Oban around 1 hour later. After collecting our bags we headed straight for the hotel bar for a ginger beer to settle our stomachs.

    Having re gained our land legs we checked into SI Backpackers and pitched our tents on the lawn. Time to go exploring...

    A short walk over to Bathing Beach to cool off in the water and then an evening walk looking for Kiwis which had been spotted on the path to Bathing Beach a fewnights earlier. We had no luck and with final walk through the bush, along fuchsia walk decided to call it a night.    Læs mere

    Stewart Island Day 2

    Hired electric bikes and rode out to Lee Bay which is the start of the national park. Joined the Rakiura Track for 30min walk to Small River and spent some time exploring the beach.

    Lunch back in Oban and then on the bikes to Ackers Point. Then over to Golden Bay for a swim.

    In the evening we went looking for Kiwi and had an amazing experience when two came hurtling through the bush chasing one another. They stopped by us and walked between our legs, pecking at shoes and socks before heading on back into the undergrowth. Heading back to the Hostel we saw another along the road.    Læs mere

    Invacargill

    Arrived back in Bluff and headed to the start/end of State Highway 1 which is the longest road in NZ at 1263 miles.

    Drove to Invercargill to look around Transport World with its themed toilets and fab vintage cars and trucks. Then for a walk in the municipal gardens and visit to Southland Museum to view the Tuatara, an ancient reptile extinct on the mainland except in captivity and exists in the wild on some islands around NZ.

    Purakaunui Falls...

    Drove to Purakaunui Falls then onto Papatowai for picnic and beach walk. Kiwis now on holiday... Places getting busy.

    Visited the lost Gypsy for some quirky gadget stuff and then a short walk to Matai Falls and Horseshoe Falls and old railway walk.

    Welcomed the New Year in at Pounawea.    Læs mere
