    Travelday to Munich

    30. kesäkuuta, Alankomaat ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Woke up fairly late, considering I still had to pack about 80%. But it's not my first rodeo, I know what to bring, and most of it was still ready from the show two weeks ago.

My mom and stepdad came by early; they’re taking care of the house and my two kitty babies. It was nice to catch up with them before leaving. Last year, my mom was in Vaassen all the time, but I didn’t see her once since she’s always cat-sitting when I’m away. Lucky me!

On the way to the train station, I picked up my new summer shoes but what was supposed to be a 20-minute drive ended up taking almost an hour. In the end, I made it, though the train ended up getting delayed.

I arrived at the airport pretty late, just 1.5 hours before the flight. I quickly ran to the lounge, grabbed a snack and a glass of champagne. This might be one of the last times I get to enjoy this little luxury, so why not toast with some bubbles?

In Munich, the rest of the Duchies had already taken the earlier shuttle. I waited for the Copenhagen crew, so I hung around and read my book.

At the hotel, I had a nice surprise ,they gave me the superior room. Such a big space, I love it. Said hi to everyone and got ready to head to bed on time.

  • Tollwood festivals Munchen

    1. heinäkuuta, Saksa ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Woke up with a bit of merch stress today. Both bands (The Hu and Heilung) had mixed information about whether we were selling merch ourselves or if it was through a concession. My last info was that it would be a concession, but apparently, it wasn’t.

So I quickly walked to the venue and ran to a store to grab some equipment so our new merch team: Gerrity, Yuri, Danny, and Jurre - could get started with sorting. In the end, everything worked out absolutely fine.

It was 36 degrees today, so we found a bit of shade to do training. We actually have more female warriors than male right now, and that always feels like something special.

Tollwood is also a big market fair. I’m not quite sure if it’s a permanent place during summer or just temporary, but it was such a cool and vibrant area to see and hang out in. The day before, Lynyrd Skynyrd played on the same stage!

Chloe and I prepped early for the show, so there was no stress before going on.

It was warm, intense, emotional, and fun all on a small stage in a big tent.

The after-party was classic, as usual.

  • Offday De hoge Kempen BE

    2. heinäkuuta, Belgia ⋅ ⛅ 37 °C

Woke up after a good night’s sleep on the bus. We stopped to do some grocery shopping.

We stayed at a holiday park in Belgium, in the National Park De Hoge Kempen. I shared a cabin with Maria and Mira, and oh my god, it was so warm today, 38 degrees! We were at the far end of the park, right next to the lake.

We invited the group to hang out at our “home.” Kai made a big Greek salad for everyone, and we all added some snacks, wine, and plenty of good laughs and chats.

Finally, some thunder and rain arrived, and we could fully enjoy it from our patio.

This touring life isn’t so bad like this!

  • Rock Werchter België

    3. heinäkuuta, Belgia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Since we were already staying in Belgium, we didn’t have to travel far for the festival.

We arrived, and you could already tell this was a big one. The backstage artist village was comfy. We had a large area just for us, with multiple dressing rooms and even our own private bathroom.

The food was great, and there was an unlimited dessert menu, so I think I had four in total. It was cool hanging out not only with metal artists. We spent time with the Deftones party, and we were both bummed we couldn’t see each other play since we shared the same time slot. London Grammar and Iggy Pop were also playing, but at the same time, we had to get ready for our set.

During the day, I took several strolls around the festival grounds. We didn’t have long warrior training and set, so we had plenty of time. My dear friend Felicity was there too, tour manager for Amy and the Sniffers. Also, the security guy from the artist village, I knew him from last weekend at Graspop, always good to befriend the security guy!

Sometimes, I wonder if I belong in this world, did I only end up here because of people in the past? But again, I met people this weekend that I only know or will because of me. That’s a nice confirmation.

Chloé and I got ready super early, like everyone else. You could feel the curiosity in the artist village. We looked like weirdos in our blackening and outfits among the other artists.

Luckily, I got to see the headliner, Linkin Park, they started an hour after us. So me, Chloé, and Kai ran to the showers to be ready in time. And it was amazing, the band what was on my wishlists since teen years! I had to get used to her voice at first, but in the end, she absolutely killed it!

Super happy and excited, I went to bed with a little visitor in my bunk. Off to Germany.

  • Off-day königstein

    4. heinäkuuta, Saksa ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We had a slightly longer drive today since we had to go all the way back to eastern Germany. Near Dresden is the big fortress, Königstein, where we’ll be playing tomorrow.

Since we’re already crashing at the venue and heading to a secret location during the off days after, we did some annual shopping for BBQ supplies and simple food for tonight.

The fortress and the surrounding area are beautiful. I didn’t have much time to explore, though, because I took the chance to get some extra sleep today.

We had a Rapé ceremony with the group and crew. There’s not much I can share about it since it’s something private for us, but we found a beautiful spot in the forest next to the fortress.

I had a lovely picnic dinner with Mira. You could tell everyone needed a day like this: quiet and easy.

  • Showday festung Königstein

    5. heinäkuuta, Saksa ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Started the day with merch. I finally have all my equipment, so I was able to try out the new camo nets. It was a bit of a hassle with the location, but I think the merch tent looked really nice in the end.

I'm happy I decided not to iron on the patch for the new collaboration hoodie. it didn’t fit at all. But my signs still made it look cool for the collab.

We had training in the fortress, which looked idyllic. However, we already had so many fans watching us, since they could enter the fortress with their concert ticket around 5,500 extra people in the facilities.

The most annoying part was that the only access to our backstage area was the public elevator. It took a long time, so we had to plan accordingly. Still, we had some funny encounters on the way.

I wasn’t having the best day, didn’t really feel in the mood but in the end, The Ritual was amazing.

After the show, I saw a firefly on my way to the elevator. It’s something I hadn’t seen before, but it’s apparently common there.

Quick shower, then back to the merch. They had the best night ever in Europe, so I’m super proud of the rest of the team. I packed up the stand.

After that, we had time for a nice drink, some laughs, and a bit of dancing in the fortress courtyard before heading back to the bus for a good night’s sleep.

  • Offday Bastei bridge, BBQ gem

    7. heinäkuuta, Saksa ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

At 11 in the morning, everyone who wanted to could join a fortress tour. We had such an enthusiastic tour guide, showing us areas that normal visitors can’t access. It was really cool to spend an hour getting a different perspective on a place we had already been exploring for two days.

Afterward, Maria suggested we stop at Bastei Bridge for a stroll and a nice lunch snack. It’s such a beautiful location, with massive sandstone pillars towering around us.

Later, we headed to our secret camping spot—which turned out to be a large hidden community by the river. We planned a big BBQ, and it was a huge success. At first, we had to adapt—it felt like two tribes meeting for the first time. But in the end, we shared one of the most amazing meals and drinks with everyone, including locals and even our bus drivers.

I ended the evening with a relaxing sauna session followed by an outdoor shower. Off to bed, ready for another day here.

    7. heinäkuuta, Saksa ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

We spent the night and following day in the commune. Chloe and I enjoyed a refreshing swim in the river, and we finished off the leftovers from the previous day.

It was a laid-back day. people were playing games, doing bits of work, and just chilling.

We left in the evening, continuing on our way to Kiel.

  • Off-day Wroclaw

    9. heinäkuuta, Puola ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

We arrived at our 5-star hotel in Wrocław after a longer drive than expected.

The hotel was incredible, with high ceilings, exposed concrete, and old wood accents. I shared a room with Chloé.

First, I went for a long walk and had a good talk with Kai. We visited a park and a church near the hotel.

Later, Chris, Martin, and I planned to have fancy steaks. Quite a few others joined us at the hotel restaurant, since it’s Michelin-mentioned.

Before dinner, we had some cocktails at the rooftop bar. The hotel spa stayed open until midnight, so Chloé and I enjoyed some time in the pool.

Afterward, I joined everyone for a few last drinks and some great conversation—then went to bed far too late.

  • Showday Wroclaw

    10. heinäkuuta, Puola ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Showday in Wrocław… in one of the most beautiful venues of my touring history.

We arrived on time, and since it was a concession, I didn’t have much work besides helping the guys with counting.

The day went smoothly. The weather was beautiful; the food wasn’t the best, but it was okay.

During warrior training, we had an intense sharing circle. That drained me a bit, but it was also very much needed. Since the setlist wasn’t new, we managed a quick rehearsal and soundcheck.

Afterwards, we went on a flower hunt and started getting dressed early.

Chloé and I made a deal with Martin to use his bubble bath back at the hotel, since he’s always the last to leave. That gave us plenty of time.

Little did we know not to use soap. we ended up with a soap explosion, and the only way to reduce it was to throw it out in the shower. I haven’t laughed that much in a long time. These moments are truly needed and special.

After that, we quickly went to see Nick in his room, and then it was off to bed.

    11. heinäkuuta, Puola ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We could check out at 12, so we enjoyed our room until the very last moment. After that, we had an amazing breakfast at Woosabi and went for a little shopping run. And enjoyed the beautiful center of this city.

I stumbled upon a small handcrafted market where I bought two beautiful traditional Ukrainian necklaces — one for me and one for my dear warrior sister, Nadia.

Afterward, Chloé and I visited a store that Nadia really likes, alchemist. After we bought groceries for the evening, since we were about to leave for Saarbrücken around 17:30.

  • Showday Saarbruecken

    12. heinäkuuta, Saksa ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Last ritual, last merch setup of this tour. It was a beautiful day, and the setup was super easy with my new camo nets.

Training was also very smooth. we spent extra time making future plans with Heilung, hearing that we're now all fixed warriors. Creating new choreography and ideas together with the group and Kai was a beautiful experience.

We also talked about the upcoming break and some exciting things ahead. It felt like a positive circle to end the tour with. Everyone was in a great mood today, though there was also a hint of sadness. this was the last show of the tour. The next ones will be standalone shows, and for me, only two are left.

The performance was mostly in daylight, which felt a bit strange, but the energy was high.

After the show, I quickly packed up the decorations for longer storage, took out the old Norse elements, and even prepped some things for the Eivør tour already.

The afterparty was one for the books, it was the first time we really bonded with The Hu. They’re such a cultural contrast, so we hadn’t had that connection yet. But they played traditional flutes for us. After curfew, we moved to the parking lot, as usual, where everyone was laughing, dancing, loving, and sometimes even shedding a few tears. I went to bed around 05:30 after multiple rounds of badger dances and funny drinks. Bus call was at 06:00.

We were set to arrive early at the airport, so I barely got any sleep.

  • Travel back home.

    13. heinäkuuta, Saksa ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We arrived at Frankfurt Airport around 8, a bit confused about when to get off the buses.

In the end, we stayed there for almost an hour and a half so I could wake up a bit more relaxed. Slowly, the group started to fall apart, others had to catch trains and flights.

I was the only Dutchie who had booked a train, so I left later, around noon, my train was scheduled to depart. That gave me plenty of time for one last coffee with Martin, since he was also leaving quite late.

The journey home was quiet and easy. Slightly delayed, but getting home before dinner always feels nice.

I took a good bath and rewound the tour in my mind with a little drink. Askur and Embla were home early for big cuddles, and around 21:00, I crashed.
