Fuego!

Wow, wow, wow. Anders lässt sich mein Erlebnis auf dem Vulkan Acatenango nicht beschreiben. Auf einer typischen Tour von Antigua aus erklimmt man an einem anstrengenden Tag den Acatenango (3.976m) und übernachtet in einem Camp in der Nähe des Gipfels um am nächsten Tag den Sonnenaufgang zu genießen. Das alleine wäre schon ein wahnsinnig toller Ausflug. Was das ganze aber zu etwas ganz besonderen macht ist der aktive Vulkan Fuego, der vom Camp aus super sichtbar ist. Es ist schon beeindruckend genug die Rauchwolken zu sehen und Explosionen zu hören, die in regelmäßigen Abständen rübertönen. Wenn es aber dunkel wird sieht man erst das richtige Schauspiel. Lava und glühende Felsbrocken Sprühen aus dem Vulkan und fließen den Berg runter. Ich habe noch nie in meinem Leben ein so beeindruckendes Naturschauspiel gesehen. Die 5 Stunden Aufstieg und schlaflose (kalt!) Nacht sind es auf jeden Fall Wert!

Wow, wow, wow. I don’t know how else to describe my experiences on the volcano Acatenango. On a typical tour from Antigua you hike up the volcano Acatenango (3,976m) in one strenuous day and sleep in a camp near the top to watch the sunrise on the next day. This alone would be an amazing day trip but what makes this tour truly special is the highly active volcano Fuego that you can see from the camp. It’s already impressive watching Fuego blow plumes of smoke and listening to the regular explosions all through the night. But when it gets dark the true spectacle begins. Now you can see lava and glowing rocks get ejected from the volcano and run down the mountain. I don’t think I have ever seen anything that beautiful and intimidating at the same time.
