Lima

Mit 10 Mio. Einwohnern ist Lima die mit Abstand größte Stadt, die ich in Südamerika bisher besucht habe. In vielen Stadtteilen muss man hier sehr aufpassen und auch beim Taxifahren sollte man sicher sein, dass man in ein offizielles Taxi steigt. Es gibt allerdings drei Stadtteile (Miraflores, Barranco und die Innenstadt) die sich sehr sicher anfühlen und die haben viel zu bieten. Neben kolonialen Gebäuden in der Innenstadt, Parks und Küste in Miraflores und Street Art in Barranco gibt es überall sehr gutes Essen und Restaurants. Dieses Wochenende ist auch der peruanische Unabhängigkeitstag mit einer großen Militärparade und die Panamerican Games finden gerade in Lima statt (dazu mehr im nächsten Post). Es ist so viel los hier, dass sich meine 5 Tage fast zu kurz anfühlen.

With its 10 million inhabitants, Lima is by far the biggest city that I have visited in South America so far. Lima has some dangerous areas and it is also advisable to be more careful when getting into taxis here. But three areas, Miraflores, Barranco and downtown are safe to walk around in. And these neighborhoods have a lot to offer, parks and coast in Miraflores, colonial buildings in downtown and street art in Barranco. Lima is also famous for its good food and excellent restaurants. The weekend I spend in Lima also happens to be Peruvian Independence Day with a big military parade and the Panamerican Games are held in Lima (more on that in the next post).
