A big days Footy at home

Having trudged to most chateaux, wine caves, Roman ruins and the occasional restaurant or bar of Provence we stayed local and rested up fir three games of the final week of pool play. We did do have a terrific drive around the south east the other day going through a gorge that was in the heart of the French Resistance war with the Nazis. It was quite amazing, having avidly read many books about what those guys did over the years, to be right there in their area of operations.
Also - nearly all the villages through this region have significant monuments remembering them with names dates of death and ages some 18-19 years old. Often three of four brothers on the same day. One can only assume executed in the village square.
Goldie and I snuck off for another superb French luncheon in town a place recommended by some Flems we ran into somewhere along the track.
Very good and very reasonably priced as long you stick just one bottle of rosē and no beers. Food brilliant again
Chocker with locals too - always a good Litmus test if the “Onion Riders”are in - probably a good venue for discerning Kiwis !
We lost Pat n Boong to Italy the other day then Jock and Glynn and their two Louise’s turned to after a prolonged journey from somewhere on a train which sadly mowed a cyclist down enroute to Orange - (the train not the cyclist - he was headed to the morgue. )
Boozer Bobs pommy mates arrived Thursday - four in number and it was like an Airforce “A” strike on the beer and wine supplies of Provence !! Great guys all and had terrific laughs with them as they were all pretty clued up on the Rugby and RWC In general. Thirsty brutes though they were, they pulled out this morning for the UK about a 12 hour run back I believe.
We’ve got Japan v Argentina kicking off in an hour at 1300 local then two more later on. Can’t wait.
We are not looking forward to packing up the suitcases again after such a wonderful few weeks but sadly duty calls back the “Shakeys” so onto the “ Tin Budgie “ we must board on Friday arvy out of Nice - Dubai - Mangere Czytaj więcej
