    Ruteng & Hobbit Cave

    November 8, 2023 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We arrived quite late to the city, which is one of the bigger ones on the island with roughly 60.000 citizens. After finals finding a place to stay, our driver Kornelis dropped us at a nice restaurant in the center for dinner. The place was much cooler then the other places we went to before, which was really refreshing. Apparently they even get a little bit of snow in some years ❄️
The next morning we met a New Zealand guy at breakfast who told us, that there is the cave where they excavated the "hobbit" skeleton, which we just saw a documentary about before we left. So we changed our itinerary with our driver in order to see the cave after leaving Ruteng 😊

    Hobbit Cave

Homo floresiensis - We said "hello" to the tiny Homo that was living in that cave 👋 after we found out about that sight, our guide dropped us there. And due to the curious New Zealand guy we also found another virgin cave just next to it. Apparently the government wants to start a second excavation there any time soon.
Next to the cave they have a tiny museum with some information about the old excavation as well as a 3D model from the sceleton of the hobbit Homo they found there.
