Day 3: KL to Kuching by Arushi

Today we had a speedy morning from wake up at 8 to pick up at 9 for our flight. Sadly jamboo was shut this morning, so we went to LOKL kapi opposite instead, where dad and I got a flat white and iced chocolate. Mum and the boys picked up some fresh fruit juices from a street stall, which we drank whilst waiting for our taxi driver to come.

We left the high rise landscape of Kuala Lumpur and sped off toward the airport with our kind driver who ended our journey with a group selfie!

At the airport, we had a very fast self check in for our bags, and then went in search of food. We went to a ramen place in the airport to order, then realising we had already pre ordered food in the plane but oh well! The ramen went down a treat and down some tops (munch munch scoop was wearing a white top too but miraculously it stayed white).

A two hour flight later and we landed in Kuching, ordering grab cabs to travel to our hotel.

At the Marian Boutique hotel, we checked in and were directed our rooms, which were much trickier to find than expected and felt like we were trying to find a deer in woodlands.

We unloaded and made our next plans, so before long we were ambling along the streets of Kuching, walking along the waterfront to old Chinatown, taking in the sights, which were mostly cat related. The famous cat roundabout, cat cafes, cat statues, cat shelters, but oddly, very few cats.

We ate dinner country kitchen, which was a buffet style, with an array of meat or vegetable options. We each had rice and some meat/vegetable dishes and some juices, which were very fresh but also weirdly sweet. After we had eaten we walked back along the waterfront into new Chinatown for dessert from Ais Krim (ice cream!) By this point, we felt we had seen most of Kuching, despite trying to hold back on our first evening. So we withheld from the Jambatan Darul Hana bridge, which was opposite the ice cream shop, to save things for tomorrow!

The ice cream in Sarawak is well known as it is made with gula apong, which is palm sugar. We had two gula apong ice creams, which had a caramel / coffee taste, and were thick and creamy, like fro-yo. Eashan went for a waffle with kaya, the same coconut jam that dad had on his toast in KL.

That wrapped up our evening, and we walked back to our hotel for a good night sleep.Read more
