The sky cleared and with only a little misty rain off and on we got on our boat for whale watching with captain Gary. He was knowledgeable and funny and we saw several humpback whales, grey whales,(one fully breached the water), and of course no one got a picture because it surprised us. We went to a local pub where Rob had a local beer, and I had a liquor shot called a duck fart (crown whiskey, Kailua, and baileys). It was actually really good.we saw eagles on top of crosses where ships had sunk years ago, and a huge pod of sea otters just lounging together. Captain Gary said it has been the coldest May and June in years. Last week it rained all day, every day. We at least are getting some sun.Read more

  • Juneau

    June 4, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Starting at 6am we are travelling through Tracy Arm Fjord. Mountains on both sides of ship beautiful. We arrive in Juneau where we rented a car with Alex and family, and head to the Mendenhall glacier and Nugget falls. We stopped at the Shrine of St. Theresa, and ended up in the downtown area. Easy to get around without getting lost as there is only one road. We ended up at the Red Dog Saloon for another round of duck shots and Alaskan beer. Cloudy in the morning, but started to rain misty to light by the time we returned to the ship.Read more

Pouring rain on arrival, so dressed in our rain gear and set off to walk around the town. Mostly jewelry stores, and native carving and souvenirs. After wandering around in the rain for an hour we stopped in to a local pub for a strawberry sorbet cosmopolitan. It was delicious. Rob had a beer. Rob had a local beer. Houses seem to be in layers up the mountain with no apparent ways to get to them.Read more

  • Prince Rupert B.C

    June 6, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

It’s Alex’s birthday today. A great place to celebrate. We went for a 2 km hike on the Rushbrook trail. It has three suspension bridges and stunning views. We went in a few shops then stopped at Wheelhouse brewing for beer, cider, and fig and goat cheese pizza. It may not sound good to everyone but both Rob and I loved it. Back to the ship for an amazing surf and turf dinner to celebrate our boy. Adri FaceTimed us at the pub. Sure wished she could be here too.Read more

  • Day at sea before heading home

    June 7, 2025, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

An amazing day at sea our last day before getting back home. Many hours filled with mountain and sea views, just incredible. A final group dinner with our very attentive wait staff. We had a lovely bottle of of champagne, a gift from our travel agent when one of our Alaska stops were cancelled. We were a little upset, but got over it when we got to the substitute in Prince Rupert B.C. (The rainiest town in Canada. It rains over 200 days a year and averages 1 inch a day all year. ) For us the sun shone all day. It was incredible. The staff on the ship said it rained all day every day the previous week, so we picked a good week to travel.Read more
