  • Brosely, near Much Wenlock

    June 27, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

Bit of a bumpy, bendy, tiring ride up here through Wales. Lots of election signs and lots of 'No pylons' signs. Lovely peaceful CL site, despite quite a few visible pylons. £16 per night inc electric.
No toilets but still a good price.
    Warm sunny evening.

  • Iron museum and Tile museum

    June 28, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

Just a 10 minute drive to Coalbrookdale Iron museum, where we spent a good few hours, what an interesting place! Lovely cheese scone and butter for lunch before having fun at Enginuity. There was an interactive floor with changing projections depending how and where you stepped. We had the most fun playing with water tanks and dams. Opening and closing floodgates.
Later we drove to the tile museum and an art gallery. Cake to top-up lunch. Managed to park on the street (40 mins max) and walk onto the iron bridge. Plus John had a final lunch top-up in the form of a pork pie.
    A warm dry day.

  • Seaham glass

    July 1, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Went to a retail outlet for boring clothes shopping then on to Seaham beach and found lots of good seaglass. Drizzly grey day.
    Fish and chips for tea.

  • Durham

    July 2, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Went for a walk along the river Wear and into Durham. Lunch at Claypath Deli, then the Oriental Museum and Botanical Gardens.

  • Thirsk

    July 3, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Drove down to Cottingham, Hull to see Tessa and Frank. Then up to Thirsk Racecourse campsite. On the road for about 4.5 hours in all.
Had an evening stroll into Thirsk and saw a wool shop, then a fabric shop. Yay! Rare in our neck of the woods.
We saw a model of a 1950s Woolshop. Some tiny garments were knitted on size 19 needles!! More like pins!

  • York

    July 4, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

Drove to a park & ride and went into York and the Railway Museum. Met Sarah and walked to her house and chatted and she cooked us a lovely meal. Back at Thirsk again tonight.

  • To Arnside

    July 6, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Had a lovely day out at Arnside and walked up to the top of the Knott. A stop at The Albion, overlooking the estuary, and for the evening, we hoped to find the Thai restaurant open, but it wasn't. Maybe due to a football match, which England was playing (and won). So we tried an Indian at Milnthorpe, which had no tables, but the takeaway was good.
John bought me a lovely metal etched fish.

  • Levens

    July 7, 2024 in England ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Showers this morning, so we drove to Levens Hall. Had tea and cakes. Then a wander around the Art Trail in the village, which was really interesting. So many people with either studios in their house or sheds in the garden. Some painters, a musical instrument maker, a bookbinder amongst the ones we saw. It was really interesting and many had gorgeous gardens.
Staying at a campsite at Sedgwick now, just a few miles away from Sam and Larrissa.

  • To Sedbergh

    July 8, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

A lazy morning then off to a charity shop in search of spoons. John's just used up his last 500 in a sculpture of a lizard!
Then a visit to Morrisons cafe and up to see Bridget and family in Sedbergh. Forgot to take photos apart from of Kylie's dog Mirren, a red fox lab. It was lovely to see them all, including Robin, just before he heads off to Maastricht for an MA in digital culture. Plus 5 year old Jasper, who had found a dragon tooth, which gives you energy when it touches you. He also found a piece of wood, which he handed to me saying, "That's wind. You've got wind". (!)
Such a lovely imaginative and polite child.
Kylie and Mark are there for 2 weeks as Mark is on a sabbatical with RSPB at Leighton Moss.
    Sunny day.

  • Cafe and restaurant

    July 9, 2024 in England ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

I spent the afternoon with Mags in Sizergh Castle tearooms, then John and I had a stroll up to Sizergh Barn shop.
Sam came to get me and treated me to a nice meal out at the Strickland Arms.

  • Hutton Roof and Beetham

    July 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Saw Scott and Caroline and had a lovely lunch and afternoon with them. Then on to see Simon and Cheryl and a lovely tea with them, making sure to leave before the Euro football match started. England v Netherlands.
Simon was saying how he never did well at school, but his best subject was art. He got 9/10 for a drawing of my bedroom. I asked was it a mess and why was he drawing my bedroom anyway? "I didn't, I cut it out of your art homework book. You'd got 8/10, so I cut the page smaller. And I got a better score than you!" 🤣
    I never knew!
    Brilliant!

We're almost all talked out now 😉.
Scott has created a really beautiful garden with a chamomile strip leading to a glass section replacing the wall, which creates an infinity effect onto the fields and countryside beyond.
Last night at this campsite tonight.

  • Manchester

    July 11, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Had a leisurely morning and then came on southwards to see Jeff and Susan in Manchester. Via Colne to return some trousers I bought in the outlet store.
In a proper bed again tonight .

  • Sugar Loaf Hill

    July 12, 2024 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Happy-snappy Cuppa stop at Sugar Loaf.
On our way home after a lovely stopover with Jeff and Susan (they even put the heating on for us in July), who we hope to see again soon during their late summer visit to Tenby.
SO much lushness on our brief leg-stretch just now. Proper camera would be better.

  • Back home

    July 12, 2024 in Wales ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Home again, and despite being left untended for 15 days, plants are still alive! All veg, flowers and hanging baskets looking healthy. Just one of the sails had come loose.
Had a really stimulating time, and it was really good to catch up with so many of the lovely people we know!Read more
