    First day in Kaunas

    May 17, 2025 in Lithuania โ‹… ๐ŸŒง 9 ยฐC

Our early flight was undelayed meaning we landed in Kaunas about 12.00. It was pouring with freezing cold wind so a bit of a shock after 23 degrees UK. Hoping tomorrow might be warmer we went straight to a lunch to an adorable place that sold traditional Lithuanian food but vegan ๐ŸŒฑ ๐Ÿ˜‹ all of the cafes are so cute here โ˜•

We checked into our apartment on a hill (obviously we don't spend enough time climbing up the massive hill to our house) and it was even more gorgeous (& huge!) than in the photos, it's on the top floor and has a wrap around balcony ๐Ÿ˜ the biggest bargain ever for 3 nights!

I'd booked the spa as an evening activity as we planned to cook dinner at home to make the most of the apartment. The spa was so much nicer than most of them at home, it was €22 for 2 hrs 15 mins and was so clean as they didn't let shoes come inside the changing room, so many jacuzzis ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿป On the way up the hill home we bumped into a silver tabby British Shorthair, blesssssss.

We had a chilled eve looking at the sunset from the balcony & catching up on Severance ๐Ÿ˜…

  • Walking all day โ˜€๏ธ

    May 18, 2025 in Lithuania โ‹… โ˜๏ธ 11 ยฐC

The forecast was for rain today, but we somehow got lucky as it was beautiful sunshine, it was a bit like going back in time because it felt like early spring rather than late spring which was perfect for walking around the city. We decided to spend the whole day sightseeing with a few pitstops for drinks, and to Jonny's joy a vegan tiramisu in a retro vegan cafe ๐Ÿ˜‹ (not my bag though, soggy cake)

Kaunas castle was lovely, it was built in the 14th Century and attacked and won by some knights, then the Lithuanians won it back, then the knights, then the Lithuanians then houses were built around it then it was protected ๐Ÿฐ

We ended the day by chilling on our balcony and Jonny made risotto, super cosy as we brought a blanket out ๐Ÿ˜

Not sure tomorrow will be as sunny so it might be museum day ๐Ÿค“

  • Bolting around

    May 19, 2025 in Lithuania โ‹… โ˜๏ธ 11 ยฐC

It was forecast to rain all day but it ended up being glorious sun all morning and started at 1pm, so we spent the morning walking round the hugeeee local park which was still in mid spring so was gorgeous ๐Ÿ˜ We decided to hire Bolts and had a lot of fun scooting to the mall (which was huge), back to the vegan cake shop to play Fungi, then home ๐Ÿ›ด it was quite invigorating getting slapped in the face by rain - Jonny got a wobbly video, I was having the best time ๐Ÿ˜‚

We decided to order a supermarket shop in, but randomly got delivered a shop for a lady called Judie which we think was her period shop as she had soups, 52 panty liners and 8 loo rolls, sorry Judie! I cobbled together a pasta and it was actually quite nice, plus free ๐Ÿ˜

  • Pazaislis Monestary โ›ช

    May 20, 2025 in Lithuania โ‹… โ˜€๏ธ 16 ยฐC

Nicest weather for the final day, see the second picture for balcony views ๐Ÿ˜ we got ready early and walked through the centre, heading for brunch at this place called Brunch Bar, I took 0 photos as I was too hungry ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿฅ‘

We then got a taxi to Pazaislis Monestary & church which was beautiful in the sun. It has an interesting history - it was once a psychiatric hospital after being Monestary, and now is a fancy restaurant and guest house, plus a festival site for summer O:

We thought it might take a while to walk round, but it was quick so we walked through the woods and had a drink at the harbour. The river had beaches and lakes so we sat there for ages listening to the birds ๐Ÿฆ it was hard to say bye to the sunniest day and get a taxi to the airport, lovely trip, Kaunas is very cute ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฐ
