    Pdx

    January 25 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 41 °F

Kristen picked me up at 11 am, and I arrived at PDX at 11:30. I checked a bag, since I brought dinner with me.

The flight to LAX was uneventful. I was upgraded to Comfort, which was a window seat with no window. I watched "Saving Private Ryan" and had a can of wine.Read more

  • LAX

    January 25 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

We landed on time and I didn't have long to wait for my suitcase at baggage claim. I was a bit overdressed for LA, but it wasn't too bad. It's about 65° here--so cold?

My friend Mark texted me just as we were taking off. He asked if I had any cruise plans. Funny story..Read more

  • Chef's Table

    January 26, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

I booked the Chef's Table back in January since I've always wanted to do it. I wasn't sure what to expect. They called me twice to make sure I didn't have any food allergies and to tell me where to meet.

We met by guest services, and the women who checked in right before me in Long Beach were there. Three sisters from Chicago, very good company. There was also another young couple, making it six of us. They led us through the dining room to the kitchen, where there was a nice table set up. I had my back to the action but could still see all the activity.

They started us with prosecco and a little tuna bite. All the food was small portions, but there were about 10 courses. The woman next to me was only 20, so she couldn't drink. Her partner was having some wine. All of a sudden, the partner fainted! It was scary. They brought a wheelchair to take her out. We guessed it was some sort of drug interaction. Crazy.

Between courses, they took us back to see how they make the chocolate lava cake. Very easy, actually! We didn't have that, but there was a little dessert with port at the end. My favorite was the waygu beef. In the end, I was stuffed.

  • Port of Long Beach

    January 26 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

I didn't sleep well last night. It was a combination of a hot room, noisy people in the hall at 1am, and I was so excited for the cruise!

I ended up getting out of bed at 7:30am. I enjoyed my coffee, journaled, and took a bath. Then I rearranged my bags so that I had all the things I needed for embarkation. Boarding documents, lanyard, metal straw. Check, check, and check!

My Lyft driver was 4 we chatted the whole time. We arrived in a little more than a half an hour. I was early for my noon check-in, so sat on a bench and did my Duolingo. At noon, I walked to get a view of the ship, then made my way to the line
Which is where I am now!
The line is long and I've been in line for 15 minutes. But it's time!

  • On the Firenze

    January 26 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

I arrived on the ship at about 12:30pm and headed straight for my muster station. There was no presentation on how to put on a life jacket. He just stamped my boarding pass, and I was good to go!

Then I went to deck 5 to find the little, unknown buffet on that deck. Il Mercato? I grabbed some chicken, cole slaw, and collard greens, then moved inside. I got a Toyko Tea, which is midori and ???

It's about 15 minutes before we can get into our rooms!

The rooms we're ready a bit early so I was able to put my backpack down and change into my suit. The weather is perfect for relaxing on the aft deck. I did pay $100 for an upgrade to the Terraza deck. This gives me access to a private deck on 5, and two hot tubs. It is also child-free. Not that it is a big issue on a January cruise.

The room is pretty standard interior room. I wouldn't want to share it--there is only one closet! But there are USB outlets by the bed. Always good!

  • Trivia and the rest of the day

    January 27, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

Trivia was fun, but I came in second. Actually, it was a better prize since I already have the Firenze lanyard. I got a luggage tag, which I really need. I got hung up on some pop culture and Carnival questions.

After trivia, I decided to lay down in my room. I ended up reading a book I had started earlier in the day, "Call of the Camino." It was a free Amazon read that was on my Kindle. It's about 2 people who walk the Camino de Santiago 25 years apart. Didn’t really end up napping!

At 5ish, I headed to the Amari bar and saw some people I knew. We chatted and had an interesting conversation with a man who is a professor of biblical history.

It was cruise elegant night and I went to dinner at about 8pm. I sat next to a young couple from Vancouver, BC. I had shrimp cocktail, escargot, a steak, and the chocolate lava cake for dessert. After dinner, I went back to the bar and hung out. Then I tried the piano bar and met a woman that was celebrating her 55th birthday. We went upstairs and I had MORE food! Then it was time for bed!

  • Sea day #1

    January 27, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

I had a lot of fun yesterday after dinner. And I met a lot of fun people. Ended up dancing until 1am. My legs are sore!

I woke up at around 7:30am and made my way to the lounge. Part of the package for the Terraza cabins is breakfast in the lounge. I had an avocado toast with an egg on top, along with a cappuccino.

I sat on the deck for a while and read before I decided to put my suit on and sit in the hot tub. It is so nice to have the deck just steps from my room. They also give us special robes to wear. I think this was totally worth the extra money.

The big trivia game in the theater is at 1:45pm. I need to get there early to get a seat and get checked in. Last year, I got there too late and missed half of it.

I'm going to enjoy a few more minutes of sun here on the aft of the ship. We are going south along the coast of Baja California.

  • Cabo Day 1

    January 28 in Mexico ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

I slept in and didn't get up until almost 10am, so I missed breakfast in the lounge. My cabin steward, Leydi, actually started coming into the room. I ended up getting a cappuccino and sat on the deck as we were getting into Cabo.

It was warmer today, and I was hot after a few minutes. So I went upstairs to grab some breakfast and then changed into my suit. And then I spent the rest of the day sitting in the deck, reading my book, and getting too much sun!

It is now 5:15pm ship time and 6:15pm Cabo time. The last tenders are coming in the next 30 minutes, then we will leave port. It's getting chilly so I'm grabbing a sweater!

  • Early evening

    January 28 in Mexico ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

I watched the sun set but did not stay on board for sail away since it was getting chilly.

I tried to check in for dinner, but it was too early. I decided to get a cocktail while I waited and sat and read my book. Still no check-in time! After about 30 minutes, I realized that I was on the wrong day in Cabo on the app! I went to the correct day, and it was already a 30 to 40 minute wait.

I got my table at 7ish and tried a Hawaiian poke, along with my normal shrimp cocktail. For dinner I had lamb, which was delicious. Dessert was a pot au creme. I barely had room!

I went straight to be after and hung out with my towel animals!

  • Cabo - Part 2

    January 29 in Mexico ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

This was a much earlier start than yesterday! I started with breakfast in the lounge. This Terraza deck has been fantastic! I had avocado toast with a side of smoked salmon. So good!

I sat on the aft deck and looked at the Lands End rocks that Cabo is famous for. Yesterday, we were too far--the Panorama had that spot. I put my suit on and got into the hot tub. I was pretty sunburnt from the day before, so I've been covering up.

I spent most of the day hanging out on the deck with my cruise friends, Joy, Ashley, and Dustin. They're all very fun to be with!

Ashley, Joy, and I went to dinner. Afterwards we were supposed to meet up, but I lost them. I ended up going to the Piano bar with LaShon, who I met before. It was good!

  • Sea Day #2

    January 30, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

Another lazy day. I had a bit too much fun the night before and was struggling. I hung out on the deck, got into the hot tub, talked to the gang, and then went in for a nap.

At 4pm, I came out to the deck, but everyone was gone. I dressed for the 2nd Fancy Night and looked around for folks, but no luck. So I checked in for dinner and it ended up being an hour and ten minute wait. But it was good! I got my lobster tail and prime rib.

I ran into the gang as they were headed to dinner. I was headed to bed!

  • Ensenada

    January 31 in Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

The nice thing about going to bed early is getting up early! I took a shower and went to the lobby for my breakfast. Then I came out on deck to watch the docking in Ensenada.

I spent the entire day on the deck finishing another book, "Land of Dreams." It was another Amazon free read that I downloaded at some point. .

I just checked in for dinner and will have some frog legs tonight! But right now, I am watching Ensenada fade away as we sail away.

  • Last night

    February 1 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 54 °F

I had dinner in the dining room. One sad part about Your Time Dining is no "Leaving on a Jet Plane." But there were frogs legs! They are really just a conveyance for garlic butter! I had the pasta with fruits of the sea, which was okay. The baked Alaska was better than usual.

I was getting ready to call it a night, but I wanted to see if I could find LaShawn (correct spelling). I was talking to a couple from SLC and they were walking my way. Just as I q
