    The long road home

    January 25, 2020 in Ecuador ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Time to start heading home. Hopped a $6 / 3 hour bus ride from Montañita to Guayaquil this morning. The enormous Terminal Terrestre (bus terminal) is also a huge shopping mall, packed on a Saturday afternoon. There are reportedly 200 bus companies doing business at the terminal with long aisles of ticket booths grouped, roughly by area served. It looks like the company I was on serves almost exclusively a direct route between Guayaquil and Olòn, just north of Mantañita. Pictures? Imagine a mall in the US with more ice cream stores. They love ice cream here.
The airport is pretty new and about the size of Fairbanks' airport. Not much airport for 2.5 million people ... and it is dead here right now. Busses are how most people travel here in Ecuador. The free wifi rocks; no need to log in , just start using it.
Kill a couple hours here then board the plane to Quito to hook up with Sarah and Shanon, who arrive back from their Galapagos Island adventure.
