• The Great Bay

    April 17, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

High over the ocean (80m), rough, and rugged, the north coast of "Cap Sizun" takes us from one vertiginous site to another.

Company on the sea-side is gannet and cormoran, a whole variety of seagulls, the occasional sailboat. On land its the great April bloom, gorse and broom, heather, in the moors, and too many flowers, fruit tree blooming and ornamentals on the trails and in villages to name them all. One strong smell to remember: the wild garlic (ail des ours) which ain't no garlic but sure smells like it. We leave the coast after a little tour of the fishing port of Douarnenez.

Locronan is a well preserved museum of pre-18th century Brittany and the capital of buckwheat crepe gastronomy. Scrambled eggs with just-the-right-amount of truffle oil, and the goat cheese with fig sauce, win our (limited) contest for best savory toppings. The chocolate and sauteed pear wins the sweet competition.

Happy stomachs and good morale send us to excellent dreams in the best campsite so far, with a view on the great bay of Douarnenez
