    Recording at Jordan's studio

    Kathryn had suggested that any of us could record a song at the music studio Jordan is running, Boy and Dog Studios. It took Chris and I two sessions but we ended up with what I think will be a nice recording of the song Walk Unafraid by REM. It was really fun to spend that time with Jordan watching him do what he loves.Læs mere

    White Mountains & Flume Gorge

    Kathryn let us borrow her car to drive further north in New Hampshire to the Flume Gorge. We'd been here with Kathryn, Dave, and little 2 year old Casey on our first trip to visit after they moved to Andover, 24 years ago. It was fun to explore the same beautiful area with our grown boys.     Stopped at Dado, a lovely tea and sandwich shop for Thai Iced tea

    We had grand plans to spend a couple of hours at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum, but alas, when I plugged in the address to Google Maos, I found that it was randomly closed on this beautiful summer Saturday. Such a disappointment, Ben and Evan had been looking forward to this all week. They showed such resilience, almost immediately recovering with a genuine "We'll have a great day in Boston no matter what we do" attitude and absolutely making it so. What wonderful travel companions they have both grown up to be!

    We decided to explore Cambridge. While walking across Harvard Yard, I noticed the Harvard Natural History museum on my phone map and remembered that Evan had asked if Boston had a Natural History museum. Everyone agreed that would be a fun stop and we all enjoyed the 2 hours we spent there before it was time to head downtown to meet Kathryn and family at the library.    Læs mere

    Casey had been out of town for work all week, so this was the first chance we had to see him. We met up at the library after a too-brief self guided tour that was interrupted by the shouts of, "Library's closing!" of a couple of town-crier-like employees who were obviously the designated building clearers.

    Wilbur Theater

    After dinner we said goodbye for now to the Schuhs and headed to the Wilbur Theater for the 85 South live comedy podcast - Evan's request. While Chris and I were definitely not in the target demographic for the show, it was fun to experience something different and hear Evan say afterwards that his face hurt from laughing so much.

    One of the things on our list of ideas that we hadn't gotten to was buying canoli in Little Italy. I found a 24 hour bakery (Bova's, established in 1932) and we stopped in on the way home. The lively atmosphere of that neighborhood on a summer Saturday night was worth the detour all by itself; the canoli were absolutely delicious but I think I enjoyed the 2 block walk to the bakery from the car even more.
