Loch Ard Gorge is named after the ship Loch Ard, which ran aground on nearby Mutton Bird Island at the end of a three-month journey from England to Melbourne.

It is the most impressive of the formations in this area. The beach in the gorge can be accessed by a staircase unfortunately it was closed when we visited. From the top of the staircase, you can see across to a limestone cave with stalagmites hanging from the cliff. The gorge is a very picturesque. I would have loved to have gone down to the bottom, maybe next time when we visit it will be open.Læs mere
