• Lucinda Jetty

    August 15, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Today is our last day in Lucinda. We decided to go for a walk and take a look at the bulk sugar terminal jetty.

This jetty is 5.7 kilometres long and is supported by 660 concrete and steel pylons that hug the contour of the Earth. It is the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.

The jetty enables Lucinda to receive the largest ships used in the raw sugar trade. It transports sugar along a conveyor from the onshore storage to the shiploader, which takes 22 minutes to travel.

It would be nice if you could walk or ride your bike on the jetty, but unfortunately, it is a private jetty not open to the public.
