  • Ningaloo Glass Bottom Boat Tour

    2. November 2024, Indian Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Today, we went on the Ningaloo Glass Bottom Boat tour. Our last glass-bottom boat tour was of the Great Barrier Reef.

It was an absolutely amazing experience. The boat was comfortable and had a large window in the bottom that allowed us to see the ocean floor and all the coral and fish clearly. The information given on the tour was both humorous and informative. We did the two-hour boat tour, which included snorkelling. It’s a great way to experience how incredible the corals, fish, and turtles are here.

We had an wonderful time. My only regret is that I didn’t have an underwater camera. It would have been amazing to capture this wonderful experience to share with everyone.

  • Yardie Creek Cruise

    3. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ 🌬 31 °C

Today, we went on the Yardie Creek Cruise with our friendly and personable tour guide, Mikhail. Mikhail was engaging and knowledgeable, cracking a few casual Aussie jokes while providing a good bit of history and local heritage information, as well as informing guests about the flora and fauna of the area. We enjoyed seeing the rare black-flanked wallabies, ospreys, fruit bats, and other bird and fish species, along with viewing outstanding geology and scenery throughout.

Overall, this was a fantastic one-hour boat trip with plenty of great photo opportunities. Special thanks to Phil for editing and putting together this wonderful video of the gorge.

  • Quobba Blow Holes

    7. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

The Quobba Blow Holes offer a mesmerizing natural spectacle where the ocean crashes onto the rocks, sending water shooting high into the air through holes in the cliff face. After months of travelling, I thought I couldn’t be thrilled by something as I felt I had seen so much already. Witnessing this breathtaking display, the Quobba Blowholes are very impressive, as is the surrounding landscape. I even witnessed wild goats.

    8. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

An interesting insight into Australian involvement in the space program.

The museum is super informative and has something for everyone. There are many exhibits and various videos to watch. There is a full-scale model of the Lunar Module and an interactive area that is targeted at children but is just as fun for us oldies. There was so much to see, with plenty to explore and interact with.

Buzz the space cat is also very cute!

  • Kalbarri - The Z Bend

    10. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The Z Bend in Kalbarri is a rare geological feature where the Murchison River makes two sharp turns in opposite directions, creating a Z-like shape.

Z Bend, a stunning natural beauty and amazing place, offers a short, relatively easy walk to the lookout on a well-made path that leads to a great viewing platform of the river and gorge far below. From this vantage point, you can see the meandering river. There is also a longer, more demanding walk to the river.

  • Kalbarri - Hawks Head Lookout

    10. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We had a wonderful drive out through the wildflower-laden countryside to Hawks Head Lookout. There are fantastic views in this very tranquil section of the National Park.

Hawks Head is very mysterious and pretty. It is just a short stroll to the lookout, and you will see what millions of years of weathering the landscape has created—quite amazing. It is lovely to see the difference between the barren landscape and the river in the gorge. It is quite a surprise looking down into its chasm of greens and reds, but you do need a bit of imagination to see the Hawk's head in the outcrop.

  • Kalbarri - Ross Graham River Walk

    10. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Ross Graham Lookout does not have as fantastic views as other lookouts; however, this one has a walk through the bush down to the river.

What a beautiful place! Towering cliffs formed over millions of years as the water winds its way through. This has left behind some spectacular-looking ribbons of colour on the rocks. As you make your way down to the water's edge, you feel the temperature drop. The walk leading to the water varies in its terrain; there are a few areas that were a bit challenging. The delightful scenery with a few pools in the riverbed was certainly well worth the walk down.Weiterlesen

  • Pink Lake Lookout

    11. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

The Pink Lake in Port Gregory, Western Australia, is a stunning natural wonder. The lake's water turns a bright pink colour which is created by the presence of carotenoid-producing algae, Dunaliella salina. This algae is a source of beta-carotene, a food colouring agent, and a source of Vitamin A.

The lake's colour changes throughout the day from bubblegum pink to lilac purple, depending on the time of day and the amount of cloud cover when you visit. It looks amazing, especially on sunny days when the colour really stands out. The beautiful pink water against the blue sky makes the view spectacular.

  • Kalbarri National Park Coastal Cliffs

    11. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

South of Kalbarri township lies a long stretch of coastal cliffs. Here the Indian Ocean butts up against the ancient Australian landmass, creating steep chasms, rocky inlets, and bizarre formations as it relentlessly carves away at the multi-colored layers of sandstone and limestone. There are a string of lookouts that dot this impressive coast.

A few of the lookouts and walking trails were closed and under refurbishment. From what we did view, they were pretty amazing. For the enthusiastic hikers, there are several hiking trails accessible at multiple access points. The trails can be walked in either direction. On the day we visited the Coastal Cliffs, we saw the Grandstand, Shell House, Natural Bridge, Eagle Gorge, Island Rock, Mushroom Rock, and Red Bluff.

We must not forget the wild emus and their chicks and, of course, the cheeky seagulls and pelicans.Weiterlesen

  • Perfect Nature Cruise

    14. November 2024 in Australien ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Perfect Nature Cruise was a very interesting and worthwhile couple of hours. The crew was passionate and knowledgeable about the wildlife and the environment. They discussed in detail the seagrass restoration, which was of particular interest. It is great to see local environmental initiatives bearing fruit.

While it’s a nature trip and nothing is guaranteed, we did view an osprey in its nest, and saw dolphins, dugongs, and other birdlife. Nothing was rushed, and there was ample time to sit and take it all in or snap some photographs. On the way home, you have the option to sit in the net at the back of the boat in the gorgeous waters of Monkey Mia.

Willi Gully Caves have fascinating rock formations, gorgeous, gnarly red gums, and two Aboriginal art sites. After doing the usual set-up, I went for a walk to look at the lighthouse, not because it's another lighthouse, but due to its unusual position, 400 metres across the road from the caravan park where we are staying. Afterward, I went down to the jetty. It is so nice being close to the water.
