Montreal to Chambly on the Chambly canal

Windy predicts enroute gusts to 35 about 4 PM, so we want to be docked before then. From Montreal, this involves cruising 50 miles North on the St L river, then 50 miles South on the Richelieu River, ending up less than 20 miles by land from our slip in Montreal! There weren't as many giant freighters as we remember and it was calm in the early morning. It was cloudy with intermit ant rain and we made good time at 22 MPH through rather boring stretches.
In the Chambly locks, attendants toss down ropes for you to hold onto for the ride up, which is rough in the forward sections (where the fill valves are). It's all original 1800's infrastructure with hand-cranked valves and a hand-cranked swing bridge. A wall in the basin is one the few with 30A shore power ($12C). There is no commercial traffic. Unlike most, this is beside another charming historic Canadian village.
