• So We’ll Try That Again Then!

    July 22 in France ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

So after months (years) of having not been properly away from home due to having Loup and Sticky, we are at it again - for the second time in less than two weeks. Having only returned from the Tour de France excursion 11 days ago, we are off to see The Cure in Nîmes.
The booking was made about a year ago so it’s been a slow burn to this point.
Today consisted pretty much of the same as our Tour de France departure day, just not so manic.
Breakfast was followed by some packing of bits and pieces and loading them into Roxvanne!
Our tickets were due to be released 48 hours before the gig on Saturday, but luckily the emailed arrived today with the download link, so these were sorted too. Lunch was followed by some TdeF on the TV, while Loup and Sticky chilled on the tiles due to the warm weather that we still have.
Talking of which we have been watching the weather for Nîmes, as the venue is an outside theatre. Unbelievably over the last week the long range forecast for Nîmes has been mid to high 30’s with the exception of one night . . . Yep Saturday night, the gig night! It is expected to rain heavily and possible lightning! Fingers crossed that moves on just a little.
At 5.30pm we ushered Loup and Sticky into the car and drove them over to their vacation location for the next six nights. Again we hated it and felt really guilty leaving them. Loup always seems to know something is in the air and gets anxious, today was no exception. We quickly dropped them with our dog trainer and without making a big goodbye scene headed home.
Once home we did the final lock up if everything, grabbed some cold stuff from the fridge and hopped into Rox.
Our intention for the first night was to drive about 2.5 hours and find a small bar somewhere in a small village/town and sit outside until bedding down in Rox - the same plan as our first night away to the tour . . . So we hoped it wouldn’t end the same way.
We had earmarked Eymoutiers as our destination as it looked pretty and appeared to have a chance of evening food at a bar.
We headed sort of south east to Civray, along to Confolens towards Limoges - we really don’t like this drive, as having done it many times on airport collections it seems to take forever! Finally at Limoges we continued south east through Masléon and finally arriving at Eymoutiers about 9.15pm.
As soon as we arrived we saw a couple of bars/restaurant’s on a corner, under some trees, outside lit in the oncoming evening darkness - exactly as we had hoped. 50m away a large car park had our name written all over it.
Within 5 minutes Roxvanne was parked and we headed up and took a seat at the smaller of the two bars - Les Copains D’Abord. The staff were immediately friendly and welcoming and confirmed we were fine to order food. We both decided to grab a pizza as it seemed a bit late for a full on meal, Teresa grabbed a ‘La Route Aux 4 Chansons’ with Fromage de chevre, bleu d'ainergne, olives and I took the L'orage with Chorizo, poivrons, oignons, champignons, olives - both were lovely and we couldn’t finished them. The remainder (as you can do here) was boxed up for us to take away - lunch tomorrow sorted. We did however decide we might squeeze a shared pudding and had a crème brûle. Red wine, beers and coffees had washed down our meal and at 11pm we took a slow small walk around the block back to where Rox was waiting. Pizza safely stowed we clambered into Rox to sleep.
Day one, night one actually achieved this time!
