    Staging in Denver

    17. kesäkuuta 1999, Yhdysvallat ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Staging: At the beginning of my year with Up With People I spend 6 weeks in Denver,
rehearsing our show. After six weeks of hard training and rehearsing, on August 20, we performed our show the first time in front of an audience. On one
day off, I signed up for a trip to go rafting. I expected a nice cosy boat trip, being a little bit shocked when suddenly hearing the noise of the first
of nine coming up waterfalls. But well, it was an experience. Staging: At the beginning of my year with Up With People I spend 6 weeks in Denver,

    Travelling with UWP
Finally, we're on the road! After 6 weeks of hard rehearsing we startet our tour and arrived in our first city, living with ohur first host family. We did CI for YMCA, working at a camp for them in horrible heat. Our first show was very successful, the audience got crazy! This is me, wearing my show costume. By the way, it took me almost six months to find out that the skirt wasn't blue... ;)))Lue lisää

We were hosted by a man with his 14 year old daughter. They were very nice people. One evening we went to a foodball game with an audience of 35000 people.
Although I am definitely not interested in foodball, it was an experience. We did promotion in a mall for our show: My face was painted with "Up With People"
on my forehead and "give" on one cheek and "25 cent" on the other one. We wanted to collect money for handicapped children who wouldn't be able to pay
    for the tickets...

We visited the Sears tower, the highest skyscraper in the USA. My host family lived in Chicago too. Their daughter was planning to travel with UWP in July,
that's why we had a lot to talk. I wasn't in the show that city, because I was sick. But I did my first interview with an applicant in that city.Lue lisää

I am hosted by an elderly couple, and I do have my own bed and my own room! You can't appreciate this enough. We had our first school project, teaching
a seventh and a 8th grade. We did promotion for our show in the parade of Meadville, wearing t-shirts with our tour schedule printed on it and with our
faces painted with the date of the show. Our host Mum showed us a little lake where there were so many fish in it, that the ducks could walk on them. All
these fish were fet by the tourists and that's why they were all coming to the surface. On our day off, our host family took us on a ride on their boat.
We crossed the lake Conneaut and went to a wonderful buffet where I ate that much that I was almost sick. Later we went to an amusement park and in the
evening we visited a host family picknick. Show in Meadville was great! The audience was so energetic, that it was pure fun to perform for them.

you remember having spaghetties, being blind? On the picture, it's Bob and me in Bath, New York. Oh, don't get me wrong! Bob was the karate doll, for my
host dad was a karate trainer. during our show in Almira we suddenly lost power and had to go on unplugged. But we made it!!!

We are hosted by an old lady of 80 years, who's very on-the-ball. I did community service in the central new york developmental service office, where mentally
handicapped patients are treated. Most of them weren't able to speak, but had a little computer, where some phrases were saved on. Pressing a button, the
pc was saying the selected phrase. That was very impressing and I got reminded that you cannot be thankful enough if you're healthy.

first school project in a middle school, wich took a whole day. we were performing a short version of our show and holding lessons for a seventh grade
concerning cultural awareness. That was quite hard but great, too. Doing community service, we painted a wall in the Club America, a club for kids of families
of lower social classes. As my jeans got tye-died in the last city, I wanted to buy a new one. But being in the mall, I was suddenly right in the middle
of two men, fighting with each other. So I decided, that my tie-dyed jeans are very nice and I could wear them still a bit longer.

I did community involvement in a home for elderly people again and it was frustrating seeing all these very sick people. And the man i visited began to cry, when I asked him about his family. During our daily rehearsal the whole cast was so frustrated, so that the staff broke up the rehearsal. And during the show half of our microphones stopped to work and two people got hurt during the dances.Lue lisää

On our way to Plymouth Meeting we stopped at Inercorse, Amish country and visited a typical house of amish people. I was quite impressed, how these people do without all of our daily things and make their own clothes, their own food and so on. In my new host family I have two host sisters again (13, und 15 years( and two cats. We did a private show in Philadelphia for Mazons, which was quite hard, for we had to carry all of our stuff into the fifth floor of the hotel. But they liked our show. during our show day in Plymouth Tyson_s Dad came to the show, who is deaf mute. Tyson had taught me a little bit of sign language and so I could talk to him a little bit.Lue lisää
