After a week in Osttirol we still have another week left for our favorite place on earth. Although, given the ever increasing masses of tourists, the impact of low water levels and the prices of the river permits one has to buy since 2024 in order to go kayaking, we go into this week with a slight feeling that it might be our last visit for a while (spoiler: the valley is going to convince us otherwise 😅).
After a week of kayaking and mountains, our first day in Bovec is a rest day. And how better to spend it than at the probably most peaceful place in the entire valley: at Mare's. As always, he welcomes us with great coffee and even better company on his beautiful piece of land, which seems to be inhabited by fairies. We chill there the entire day and even take a nap in the first while Mare is off visiting his grandma and then wakes us with homemade lunch.
In the evening of that day, Marita, a friend I met recently kayaking in Germany, arrives. She doesn't have a lot of experience on whitewater, so Julia and I take her on some easy sections before going on a little bit more interesting ones for ourselves. But mind the water levels: At the beginning of the week, they are so low at 6 m^3/s that paddling is really not fun and it is hard to find a line where your boat scratches the ground a little less. Then, after 1.5 days of heavy rain, the level springs up to 120 m^3/s, the river is completely changed!
