  • Family is everything

    September 25 in the United States ⛅ 19 °C

We had a very special afternoon and dinner with Ken my mother's cousin, Uncle Kenny to me. It's amazing how you can go years and years without seeing someone and then it's like there was no time or distance when you're back together. looking forward to more trips and tours, and learning from Ken about my family's history.Read more

On July 5, 1963 my 18-year old mother two weeks after her high school graduation enlisted to serve her country in the US Navy. One of 5,000 women on active duty at the time, she grew her career and shattered glass ceilings. She was one of the first women allowed to stay on active duty after becoming pregnant. She was one of the first women officers stationed on ship. Thank you Master Sargeant Marin for listening to her story and letting her relive such a pivotal memory in her life!Read more

  • Goodbye Knickerbocker!

    September 26 in the United States 🌧 14 °C

It is a drizzly morning as we say goodbye to the Knickerbocker hotel and head towards the cruise terminal. Luz and Jimmy made our trip so very special, especially how they handled Mom. Truly magical hotel with the very best location right on Times SquareRead more

  • Good bye NYC, hello QM2!

    September 26 in the United States 🌧 15 °C

We've boarded the shipped (and my way too many pairs of shoes) and the engines are fired up, ready to go. NYC was just right - we saw a show, a much needed visit with family, and I even found time to buy a purse (shocker!). Times Square seemed smaller than I remembered but still exciting and vibrant. Here's a few photos from the last few days. Did you know the NYE ball stays up all year?Read more

  • About that on-time departure

    September 26 in the United States 🌧 15 °C

Soooo, a little nor'easter stands between the Queen Mary and the open seas. The harbor is closed because of the weather and quite frankly I'm grateful to be securely moored at port rather than bouncing about in the Atlantic with 25' seas and 40 knot winds. No seasickness for me thank you! In the meantime, lovely nightime view.Read more

  • Day 1 at Sea

    September 27, North Atlantic Ocean 🌧 18 °C

While my pictures don't tell much of a story, it was a great first day. The weather has really settled down. Mom had a spa treatment and I wondered the ship, making a new friend named Leslie. She is a widow and solo traveler, and we agreed to meet for coffee during the voyage while Mom is in the spa every day. Afternoon tea was spectacular, and every where we turned we met more seasoned Cunard travelers, on for three to four weeks at a time (life goals!) We ended the night with a comedy show by Phil Tag, writer for SNL.Read more
