The city of Nordlingen has a poor name. I don't think this is North. And it makes no mention of the giant meteorite crater that contains the whole city.

Cosmic cult or real estate scam?

Well, it was thought to be a volcanic Crater till an American geologist scratched the church walls to discover schock quartz. This town is literally built with diamonds.
