• Trail day 5: beach walk to George point

    We woke up to get our tent packed, but instead spent a good while just watching these two noisy pittas furtively hop about the forest floor. It's puzzling how such a bright and striking bird can go so easily unnoticed when it is in the lead litter.

    We got going on the trail and found some picturesque sections of forest. This was pleasant and easy walking which now brought us to the beach again. There was a tidal creek to cross, but the tide and season were on our side.

    We walked a good many KMs on the beach. We watched with some curiosity this strange shape on the beach at a distance. Slowly it grew bigger and we walked up to and past a grounded ship.

    We made it to the extraction point and met up with the other hikers. Kiran was feeling proud, and rightly so, for having completed this challenging track under his own power.
