Charters Towers

We had approximately one and half hours to do a grocery shop and check out the main township of Charters Towers. Approximately 130 kms inland from Townsville, with a population of just over 8.000 the town is historically important gold mining town and built on the huge profits of gold mining. Today Charters Towers is beautifully preserved with the best of the buildings concentrated in the town center. My favourite was the Stock Exchange Arcade, complete with a glass roof, stained glass windows and a magnificent tiled floor.Read more
